Hello Aussie Kava newb here hello Mateys :), i have recently gotten into Kava for health reasons anxiety, chronic pain and insomnia. I can only buy Kava from people who bring it into my country on their person and this leads me to eBay, though expensive its all i can get because its illegal to import it into Australia via post. Anywho on to the question i have recently been buying Tongan Kava and its great but its breaking my wallet and theirs somebody selling Yaqona Fiji Kava for half the price and i was wondering if any of you could give me a review on both these kava in your perspective to whatever Kava strain you drink if you can cause im eager to learn more, im gonna be restocking on kava next week so if you can help that would be much appreciated :) here is the two links to what i can buy, and if any of you know a way to get better kava in Australia shout out loud :D pretty krunked with my brother at the moment enjoying some muse and pain relief. with kava im excited with what holds in the future.

Fiji Yaqona

I normally use 4tbsp and sometimes 6 to 8 per batch of kava and do 2 runs of the stuff using the trad method with muslin baggy although with the 8tbsp it can leave me fairly quesy.

I paid $80 for a kg in brissy a few days back & its quite good quality. No way on gods green earth would i buy kava on ebay here or pay what they are asking in the links you posted. Its most likely a tourist sample that someone has had sitting in their kitchen pantry for 4 years. I also believe its probably against the law to sell it on ebay in australia as when i had an importing lic for kava…i was never allowed to advertise it in any media.

Hi Jack, welcome to the kava forums, I looked at the links and you were not kidding when you said it was breaking your wallet. I wish that it was easier to bring in to Australia, do they still have the problem with the Aboriginal people and the kava. I heard that is what started the restrictions on kava there in your beautiful country.
I want to come and visit Australia some day, I want to go and check out some of the opal mines.
If you have any technical questions about kava let us know there is a lot of info here. Aloha from Hawaii.

Hey Chris, yeah their was that problem with them drinking too much all the time and once that happened they made it legal only to use and to possess/buy/sell and your aloud to bring in 2kg at a time on your persons with your on board luggage this law was made so as to allow natives to the islands bring in their kava for ceremonial use.
It really sucks cause kava use here would be very well implemented especially with all the alcohol fueled violence in Australia.
My mum has been to the opal mines when she was a kid and back then you could just find broken boulders with opals and other gems etc around the desert, something i have wanted to know about Hawaii are all the beaches their got good waves or is just some cause here we have beaches that have great waves and then others that got bad surf.
only thing that i would like to know about kava is it fine to start in the morning around 10am and continue on till bedtime? (id probs use tops of 6 to 8 with this) cause i am finding my anxiety pretty harsh lately and if i can that would be great because i dont like using prescribed meds (valium etc) for my panic attacks and pain and this helps manage it quite nicely. today was the first day i started drinking it early, just dont want to over do it and get some side effect that i dont know of...

are you able to give me details on how to get the $80 kg because im seriously interested im in the hunter valley above sydney.
it classifies under wines on ebay so i guess it is all good i aint complaining :D as long as i get my kava im happy .as for the tonga the bloke has been selling it for a bit and it gets me pretty dazzled (2tbsp toss and wash left me really fazed when i first got and i puked which turned me off it for a while) and he also offers it for bulk price so i doubt his would be samples but i do think that is what the yaqona is but im just needing it cheaper damn.
how did you get a license to import?

Australia has a high population of Fiji Indians & if you just ask any of them they will often sell you their own kava they have returned to Aust with. Yaqona is simply their local name for kava…not a variety. Fiji Indians do not seem to worry about varieties. I obtained an import lic maybe 16 years back through the Theripudic Goods Administration however we all had them taken off us probably 12-13 years ago.

Hi Jack, Like Nemo said, try and look for some Fiji Indians over there, maybe look at different Indian stores or emporiums and ask them if they sell kava.
In Hawaii I guess it is the same for waves, we get the biggest waves on the North Shore, there are some good spots and then there are some bad spots, just like you mentioned Australia has.
You know your welcome to come to Hawaii and pick up some kava from my kava farm, :)
I have to tell you that the kava leaders are actively working on getting kava out from under any bad light so if that happens I hope that Australia will loosen up there regulations on kava.
You can drink kava when ever you want to, in the morning does not matter, if you need it. It might make you sleepy but I guess the meds that the Doctor would give you also would make you sleepy. Once you get to know kava real well then you will see better how to use it, dose wise and stuff like that, you can also drink a weaker brew in the morning and see if that helps. Again let me know if you have any questions, aloha.

i shall look into it hopefully i can find a cheaper source, aaaaah that makes me feel better cause i was always told that hawaii has perfects waves everywhere hehehe and i got jelous right away, hmmm surfing krunked sounds fun :)
thats awesome that i can use it whenever cause my anxiety and pain is all the time groovy,
yes the prescribed meds turned me into zombie and they are way addictive :( so glad i found kava cause i dont know what i would do (i love how i can still remember where im going with kava but pain killers / benzos i feel lost if i got for a walk longer then half hour or if it is a place im unfamiliar with memory loss was a real problem), makes sense drinking a weaker one in the morning but so far the kava does not make me real sleepy (bad insomniac) it does however make it when i normally sleep i sleep quicker and stay asleep for atleast 6 to 8 hours which is awesome although i would love to have a kava induced nap some day :)

i look forward to the day i manage to get to hawaii id love to visit :) and i have heard of some movements for kava in australia their was a festival promoting it a while back for relations between islanders and continent etc or something of the sort, im really looking forward to when it becomes more legal and available, i think im gonna buy some cuttings next december (missed out on them last year)
how much is kava by the kg over where you are? if its cheap enough it might be sooner then later lol

As to finding kava Jack ..it's a pack of cards in the wind. I walked into a 7-11 once & noticed the owner was Fiji Indian & asked him & he had some sold me his. I saw an Fiji Indian courier driver doing a delivery to a company on day, asked him & he sold me 2 kg (that's where my only & def last tudai experience came from)

They don't seem to care about variety, they just drink waka kava. They travel back & fwd a good deal & always bring it back.
