Kava making machine

First, for those of you clicking on this hoping I had found a kava making machine sorry to mislead you. I don't have one.

But I do have a tea maker that I find really handy. I just put the tea in - it heats the water and steeps the tea for a certain amount of time and it works very well. It makes me wonder - how hard would it really be to automate kava straining?

I'm thinking you'd have some kind of box. You'd fill it with water, place a strainer bag inside it (there'd be some kind of catch on the lid or something to hold the bag up) and stick your kava in, enter in how many minutes you want and then the sides would close in, smashing the crap out of the kava.

Unfortunately I'm not a very handy guy. I'd pay a heck of a lot of money for something like this though. Thoughts?

Doing some searching, I guess I'm thinking it would be similar to a hydraulic juicer, but sized like a normal kitchen appliance and you have to provide the water yourself since kava root comes dry.

Here's my Homer Simpson-esque design effort.

midas, I imagine a design that would use a tumbler system with a hand crank or possibly a low RPM electric motor. Fine mesh/screen on the outer cylinder with a ribbed inner tumbler. The kava would be placed in between the two cylinders and the rotating action would automatically knead the kava in the water as the inner tumbler is turned. I'll mock up a design in-flight to Philadelphia. I'm about to board so I don't have time now.


I also wonder if a pulp-separating juicer would work with pre-soaked kava?  It would probably take a couple of passes through the machine, but if anyone here has one maybe they would be willing to try?
