Kava Od50?

So, I have faith that all of you here use kava responsibly considering this is a close community focused on appreciating all of the good qualities of kava, but even as the roots may not be non toxic, I've wondered if there is an overdose level. Has anyone ever overdosed off of it? I can't find any information, and to be honest most sources say it's pretty safe.

I'm going to say no on this. But don't quote me, but I have never heard anything about a kava overdose. I guess it could kill you if you were unloading huge shipment of it and got crushed under a few hundred kilos.

Krunkedout, honestly your post made me chuckle lol. I would love to have a shipment of a hundred kilos of kava though, I'd be set for at least a few days.

I've never looked into this, but, i'm guessing that if it's prepared the traditional way...your body would just start puking before it could cause any real problems. But If you started chugging stupid amounts of extract you could possibly suppress your breathing or something like that. I don't really know though.

I don't know about extract, but with normal kava root powder you'll just fall asleep. When I first started drinking I was just trying more and more powder, then I got to a point where I couldn't enjoy the effects because it was making me fall asleep. I would wake up in the middle of the night strongly feeling the kava. That was a "well this is a waste" kind of moment, so I scaled back.

That was my thought as well.

I would have even settled on KorporalKrunk....There can only be one Kap'm of these seas.....or two.... you know. We're pretty agreeable people here.

I do not believe there has been a formal LD50 established. I truly think it would take many many hundreds of milligrams per kilogram to harm you. Then you run the problem of going about ingesting enough to cause those levels. I'd venture to say it's close to impossible in the traditional preparation.

You'd probably drown yourself before the kava killed you and you'd probably hurl before you drank enough water (at one time) to kill yourself.

I can't imagine how one would feel if they drank enough kava to actually kill them. You'd be pissing like a fire hose. I wouldn't be surprised if you actually dehydrated yourself enough to get you in trouble, puking aside. I'd worry about those two far more than anything else.

In the ancient world, Atlantis was the greatest kava drinking nation. In a single night of experimentation, John Frum and I challenged each other to drink as much kava as we could until one of us died.

Needless to say, we're still alive.

How did it sink?  Sneezles.

Water overdose kills woman in Wii challengeJury Rules Against Radio Station After Water-Drinking Contest Kills Calif. MomI guess anything is possible - Wikipedia - water intoxication has a "notable cases" section at the bottom...I was surprised to see how many cases there were considering.  However unlikely, savor your fine roots and enjoy - you will feel better anyways by not chugging a gallon at a time :)

So... the guy who sells Kava Kava Candy, which has an almost nill water content compared to the beverage prepared from dried rootstock... tells us about how lethal water is.

Very well played, sir.

LOL - I actually did not even think about that :)   According to "The Office"  - Episode: Fun Run  "...Rabies victims... have to live with an irrational hatred of water their entire lives." I gotta go get checked :)
