Kava wearing off while I'm out at bars

So first I wanted to thank this forum for introducing me to kava.

This is an issue I'm sure many of you run into and maybe I'm missing an easy solution.

When I go out to bars with friends I will drink a hefty amount of kava before going out. But no matter how much I drink the effects are completely gone after ~3 hours max.

And since kava is less potent than alcohol per ml I can't carry around a flask (it wouldn't be nearly enough to do anything).

So whats the alternative? Carry around encapsulated kava?

Having previous herbal experience my idea would be to make a lot of kava, then boil it down so its way more potent per ml. (I heard the effects of boiling destroying lactones is overstated)

Let me know if you all have any input, much appreciated.

You could bring micronized or instant kava out to the bars and add them to your non-alcoholic beverage

That might be a valid option, any micronized that tend to last longer? I had one from bkh and it felt more heady and only lasted like 40 mins, maybe a heavier strain would do better?

I wear a Kava flask occasionally . I love it. I make traditional prep w/ a modest amount of root. Sometimes the water carriers I use can hold more than 1 Liter. Its nice to bring pure water & tea & carrying on both sides helps for balance if you are walking.

Please avoid "kava capsules" as they are not as high quality root and you will consume Makas from them, others will suggest you look into micronized or paste and very well, my best idea for you is give it your best try at traditional prep with everything clean to start and you will create a result so satisfying

I have been known to make up more and leave it in my car. A quick trip out to refill and away I go. Other options include paste or more convenient options to carry with you. Depends on the location of the bars you are going to. Wine flasks are a convenient way to carry more liquid. If a bar has an issue with it you can tell them your the DD, which usually makes them back off.

A product I would like to see for this application is one where the instant kava is pre-packaged for ~20 oz water. Like a crystal light to go stick but kava.

A bag of instant kava and a teaspoon is how I would deal with this problem. Just mix it into whatever water, juice, etc you have available. I'm not a big fan of extracts since they lack the experience that kava is known for.

Yeah the problem with using a flask is it has to be small enough to conceal. No bars around here will let me bring liquids in. Instant kava sounds like a solid option.

So essentially my 3 options for powder are: micronized, instant, or plain root?

Which of these is the most potent so I can just load it into a small flask?

This intrigues me. I don't hang out in places where Kava is taboo, and I carry a bag everywhere. All Kava types are potent, it depends how you make them, how much you have, and your preference for which type you enjoy best - in my opinion

edit: I'm not saying I drink Kava at every place, sometimes I would rather save it until after, when I get home. Try that it's rewarding.

Yeah the vast majority of place I go won't allow any external drinks. I guess what I'm asking is what is going to be the most potent per ml, and it looks like thats going to mean directly mixing powder (whether thats instant, micronized, or just straight kava root with water)

Honestly micronized looks like the most potent out of those 3 that won't turn my stomach into an amazonian forest.

I think Instant and Micronized are the same thing, and of the two choices "instant" vs. "traditional" prep, it's really up to you what's stronger. Try your ratios of Kava to water. See what is most efficient for you! I'm comfortable with my traditional brew technique, it did not take me long to hone in on my preference for how watery or thick a shell should be.

Yeah i usually keep some in car... but obviously if your not driving that can be a hindrance to ask for keys all the time. or say you park super far and walk...or ubered with the friends... the best way would be the micro... and kava candies are really good for socializing in my experience.

Instant is actually much less harsh on your stomach. It also tastes better and has a very smooth texture. Micro has the worst taste and texture of any form and some people find it quite nauseating. Personally if I'm out and want to drink kava, I either bring traditional prepped or a container of instant. Instant is just so easy to use and the potency can be fine tuned.

Definitely agree with @SelfBiasResistor about the difference between instant and micro. Instant is SUPPOSED to essentially be grog made with the water evaporated resulting in the potent powder left over. Micronized is basically kava that is ground extremely fine instead of just a medium grind. Essentially toss n washing but with less negative effects, micronized doesn't sit well in my stomach if you can get past the taste to begin with. As mentioned you might be able to bring a bag in but I’d be careful, people tend to get concerned when they see someone putting an unknown powder into a drink. Not sure where you are from but nobody knows what Kava is around here.
