Okay, I just saw it on a post on Instagram, and I was like huh???
Generally what I find is that the older the paper, the more likely they are to use the term "pyrone" over "lactone".
Here's an example from what I'm reading through today:
"5, 6 dihydro alpha pyrones: dihydro-kawain, kawain and methysticin
alpha pyrones: 7-8 dihydroyangonin and yangonin "
