Magic with Moi and Nene

I'm a pretty big fan of moi and nene. Nene is such a clean, mellow body relaxation, and moi is pretty heady and pretty potent. For some reason, it never occurred to me to mix them until I woke up at 4am this morning unable to fall back asleep. I made a 1:1 ratio, and within a half hour of chugging down half an aluball shaker, I was floating off to the most peaceful sleep. A couple hours later, I woke up feeling very refreshed and very relaxed.

Would highly recommend trying this combination. I've experimented around with mixing kavas in the past, but I gave up on it after being underwhelmed by most if my concoctions. Something about this combination, though, was magical and I had to share it with everyone :)

Also, I want to throw some praise @Gourmet Hawaiian Kava . I've been experimenting with many different brand/strains of kava, and for whatever reason, GHK is the only brand that never leaves me with a fuzzy or groggy feeling that I occasionally get with other brands. I'll still enjoy some KWK or Dua Na Bilo every now and then, but everything I've tried from GHK just doesn't give me any negative effects for whatever reason (one exception being a mild allergic reaction to hanakpi ai).

Anyways, happy Friday :) just wanted to share my experience with all

That was my blend today at work and it kept me on the ball but as soon as I got home and hit the couch I immediately fell asleep for two hours ..

Anyone ever try Mo'i and Hiwa blend? I would have to agree with Rick, GHK as I have even told Chris is amazingly clean kava in comparison to anything else out there.
I can't remember if I tried it with Hiwa specifically, but usually when I mix Moi with heavy kavas, the heavier kava would overpower the Moi. I think Nene synergizes nicely with the moi because it's light enough that it doesn't take over the experience, but it still adds that mellowing body relaxation that I don't get from Moi alone.

I just finished off the other half of my Moi/Nene aluball shaker, and both times I felt like I could very easily drift off to sleep (which I initially did), or I could just as easily get up and enjoy doing work in a very relaxed state of mind and body

So big leap of faith here! I've got some Nene but found it doesn't do a whole lot for me - certainly never helped with sleep. I've tried Moi - one time it was good, the next not so much. So never bought any more. Your reaction to the mix has me intrigued, so in order to use up my Nene, I've just purchased some Moi! If it doesn't work, I may be putting up both kavas on the marketplace! Wish me luck!

I have tried moi with mahakea and that was intoxicating and elevating. MoI with hanakapi was balanced.

They all sound like good combo. I mix different Kavas when I get to the end of bags. When otherwise too small to make full batches. Can't go wrong with GHK

Let me know how it goes!

Nene is definitely a subtle kava. It just puts me in an all-around relaxed state which can help me float off to sleep. It's definitely not the same kind of feeling I get from heavy kavas which can knock me out, but that's also why I like it. I have really bad insomnia, and sometimes the heavier kavas don't even put me to sleep. When that happens, I like to be able to get up and do something productive, but heavier kavas make that a little difficult.

Anyways, good luck with mix :) hopefully they work better for you in concert

Mo'i is great for mixing in general. I've mixed it both with melomelo and mahakea with similar results to what you describe. Mo'i has almost ZERO body relaxation for me, and I always end up drinking too much of it, if I don't mix it with something else. I can't tell it's working until I'm so far gone that I'm waaaaay gone. After I figured that out, I only ever consumed it as part of a mix. I would usually mix the ratio at around 1:2, Moi:Other Kava.

Ordered some Moi to try the blend. I've actually been mixing Nene with Kumakua and found it exceptional! But Chris seems to be out of Kumukua.
Ok one question, although you'd think after all these years I'd know the answer, but I need to be more frugal with how I spend my money - so I've got a lot of travel coming up over the summer - starting May and lasting until August. One is a 10 day trip to England to deal with my Mom who stresses me out! This is immediately after a 3 day trip to Santa Ynez - not wine tasting - but looking after my grandson for three days while Momma works. So I know I'm going to be stressed and overly anxious! I need something discreet and also would prefer not to take two or three bags of kava plus Aluball with me to England as I don't want to take any checked luggage (although I may have to!). Which would be better in terms of blending lets say Nene and Moi - Instant or Micronized? Don't usually have problems with micro but I haven't had it I'm a while. Are the effects different from medium grind? Stronger, weaker or just "different"?
That was more than one question.

So I can't answer all of your questions but as far as the difference between GHK microgrind and medium grind is something I have lots of experience with. I was exclusively a microgrind guy for the first 8-9 months of my Kava Career before switching to medium grind (mostly due to issues with dermo). For me microgrind was like the difference between popping a caffeine pill and drinking a cup of coffee with the same amount of caffeine. The kavian, heady, kick from microgrind would hit hard and fast (like 10 minutes). It had a real nice rush of euphoria, numb face, head buzzy - occasional vertigo like feelings. For me medium grind is a much slower and gentler build up even when taking the rough equivalent (in total KLs not weight) all at once as the microgrind. For me the two are definitely a different kava experience - both good, but it depends on what you are looking for.

Hmm interesting. I'm not into the occasional vertigo like feelings - just about got over the dizziness caused by benzos and benzo withdrawal. Don't necessarily want it back! I like the sound of slow and gentle. Thanks for your input!

My preference these days is definitely medium grind - but I still keep micro on hand because of the convenience of it. Micro is more convenient than the aluball, and a lot more potent. When traveling I usually bring the microgind. I have not tried the kava candy but that might be an option as well. They seem to get pretty good reviews on the forum.

So I received the Moi yesterday - @Gourmet Hawaiian Kava has awesome shipping! Going in with positive thoughts, I just tried a 1:1 mix of Moi and Nene. Over the past couple of days I've been trial-ing - and enjoying - Nene and Kumakua. And this trial has made it easier to compare the effects of the moi/nene.
I've really enjoyed the nene/kumakua. No jitters, nicely relaxed but still able to function.
As for the nene/moi - oh boy. Big difference! Definitely feel the jitteriness, slight headache. Internally body feels like the cortisol is rushing through it (and I have recently tested as having high daytime cortisol) and the moi definitely made it feel worse! Later this afternoon I will try a lower percentage of Moi to Nene. Maybe 0.50:1. If that still makes me feel jumpy, then I may have a an almost new 1/2lb bag of Moi up on the marketplace.
Thank goodness Chris told me he should have some more kumakua up for sale soon!
Moi is definitely not for "moi".

Aw that's too bad. I've never had the headache or jitteriness from moi. Some people must be particularly sensitive to it.

Palmetto

Thank God!
Moi is too heady, almost boring by itself, but may be the best heady mixer available. Added to certain heavier kavas that are too mind numbing, it perks me up in a good way. If I'm in a mood less interested in perking up, Honokane Iki is good for the "I just want to be left alone by myself" heady mood for studying or forgetting about the world. It has a strong warm fuzzy kavain kick, but I'm guessing it is low in methysticin. I'm assuming that methysticin is partially responsible for Moi's social aspect.

PepperyPyrone

I'll have the pyrones with some pepper, please.
I have now tried mixing Mo'i with a few different kavas, including Nene, and found them all to be very electric with difficulty sleeping and falling asleep. However I love Mo'i by itself, and I understand Palmetto's opinion that it's boring, however I don't think it is boring, it's just different because it lacks that normal balanced or heavy kava feeling and often times one might think it has no effect, possibly outside of the traditional "heady" kavas. I find that it simply enhances my mood and makes me incredibly happy to the point I stop and go, "damn why am I in such a good mood?!" Because there is uaully nothing else accompanying that good feeling. I'm even having a hard time explaining it because it simply puts you in a very lively good mood that has no other "kava" feelings associated with it. It is so clean and such a great lunch time kava to literally make your day. I must also state that I only do one tablespoon medium grind of Mo'i per day to get this effect and I don't see the need to do anymore than that based on how it makes me feel. Perfect at low doses, but I also understand that this batch of Mo'i is very potent based on where it's grown in Hawaii. After a good day of Mo'i I usually wind down with something a little heavier To relax. This thread has been great and made me experiment with mixing Mo'i and reassessing it by itself and it's simplistic power of happiness and wellbeing.
