make you own instant kava

Kava Curious
Have any of you tried it? I have and I think I am going to make large batches of it so I dont have to make a mess everytime I want kava. Made a very potent brew 1:1 and soaked it for 12+hours. Then I blended it to kingdom come for several minutes and strained it with as much force as I could. I poured the kava into an oven tray and put it on 40celcius with a fork put in the door to keep it slightly open to let the water escape. I left it overnight and when I got up. Instant kava. Just scrabe it off and you are good to go.

I get the same amount of shells out of the instant kava as I would have if I had just drunk it when i made it. It dissolves willingly in any lukewarm fluid with fat in it. I have come to enjoy a coffe punch with a teaspoon homemade instant, in an espresso with heavy cream. It alters the taste for the better.

I pulled the 40degrees celcious out of my backside. I have no idea at what temperatures the various enzymes and kavalaktones start to break down. But I have noticed no loss of potency.

I am going to try another method too,. I am going to make the brew with powedered soy lecithin and destill it instead. If I am right in my assumptions. I will end up with a substance that has the same characteristics as powdered lecithin but with kava attaced to the individual granules. Powdered lecithin is odd in that it will dissolve in water. Ill let you know.

I've been thinking about doing this.  However, I was going to make kava like I normally do and then put it in a food dehydrator.

Food hydrators are probably a more gentle solution. The only reason I chose to make the brew more potent than I would drink it was to get as much kavalaktones in as little water as possible.

I am sorry I havent gotten around to do it yet. Its not destilled water. I want to try to destilate the brew by setting up some ghetto vacuum destilation equipment. But i realised that I had a lot of reading up to do before I went beyond various methods of drying. I left out the lecithin because its not needed and would likely just turn it into a sticky mess. I suspect that those who produce large amounts of instant kava would use something like spray drying. Thats what I would do anyway. But its not something you just set up in the comfort of your home..

Also it must be stressed that this experiment  from a pure cost benefit perspective it is as worthless as an ashtray on a motorcycle. But its some really interresting instant kavas that come out of it. I have found a use for Pentacoste Pride. Make some heavy brew, dry it and for some reason it kicks like a mule but tastes better that any other instant I ever had, hands down?! Probably because you take too much at a time this way heh.

How was the dehydrator experiment Elizabeth?
