Medecine Hunting In Paradise?

Yes, i've read it twice. Minus the introduction, it's strictly kava. I pounded it out on a lazy saturday, the second time. This author has a few youtube videos, as well.

Apparently kava bars are very common in Vanuatu which would be a huge improvement in the US over alcohol related bars. Imagine how much better society would be if kava was THE drink as opposed to booze. Since the processing of kava is a helluva lot simpler than the brewing of beer or distillation of high % alcohol it would quickly destroy a very powerful lobby group's cash cow so I doubt it will ever happen. I've never heard of kava-lism...have you?

The sad thing is that we did the exact opposite on their turf, discouraged (or outlawed) kava and got alcohol circulating.

If you're looking for something that isn't terribly mentally engaging, it's great. Like Buddha said, The Pacific Elixir is very saturated with information, so it may not be the best choice if you're exceptionally krunked. Though I haven't read through this entire book—I downloaded it on my Kindle and then got caught up in the new edition of one of Anton LaVey's books—that of it which I did was more palatable to my heavily-kava'd mind.

Funny you mention that, because I feel like my ability to absorb information is heightened when I am krunked. But then again, I did write my dissertation while completely bowled over by various varieties of Paradise Kava.

I really liked it. Easy reading. Unlike The Pacific Elixer which is far more academic.
Kilham does on page 11 acknowledge Kava - The Pacific Drug, by by Lebot, Merlin & Lindstrom as "the best researched and most complete of all academic works on kava".

I don't really consider it a religion, for his "Satanism" is really just self-worshipping, carnally desirous atheism. I disagree with him on many things (I feel like a lot of it is very harsh and cruel), and therefore don't deem myself a LaVeyan Satanist, but being an avid reader of Ayn Rand, Aleister Crowley and Nietzsche, I do incorporate a lot of his philosophy into the way I live my life, as he incorporated theirs into his. The problem with all of the aforementioned philosophers is—with the exception of Nietzsche's pre-insane writings—the blatant selfishness, sometimes leading to the detriment of others. I don't believe in Satan or God as deities, but to me they represent equally important aspects of the psyche. Sorry to bring back a question that was asked a few days ago for something irrelevant to kava, but it seems I was misunderstood, and I don't want to be considered a theistic, legitimately devil-worshipping Satanist.

Anton Lavey has an interesting enough take on world to warrant reading. I don't think this is the place to criticize or defend religion though.
