Moderately heavy drinker.....want to try Kava

Hi. I'm 28 and have drank moderately heavily for the past 10 years or so. I don't consider myself to be an alcoholic and frequently go for several days without a drink. However I tend to drink 3/4 pints a night, a few nights a week and then often very heavily at weekends.

I realize that excessive drinking is harmful and so I want to cut down considerably. I'm trying to break the 'habit' of drinking in this way by stopping myself from becoming bored and getting more physically active etc. However, it would be nice to have an alternative to drink which I can use instead when I feel like I want to unwind and relax. Kava Kava sounds Ideal.

I'm obviously concerned that I may have already given my Liver a bit of a hard time and Iv read a lot of contradictory information about the potential har to a persons liver form taking kava. This ranges from 'harmless', to 'harmless if properly correctly', to 'it was only harmful at the height of its popularity before it got 'banned', due to greedy producers bulking out their product with part of the plant which are not supposed to be used and which contain toxins' etc.

Id welcome some advice before buying myself kava.

Cheers.

Welcome @saturns_pattern. I see that you copied my life story and posted it as your own. ::awesomesmiles:: Oh wait a minute, you have only done it for 10 years and my story had 40 plus years. I still drink on my non kava days but I make it a point to drink way less. Sip on the stuff and enjoy. The binge drinking on the weekend is the worst thing we do to ourselves. Try doing kava on the weekends and get away from binging on alcohol. Then cut your beer consumption to 2 pints on your NON KAVA nights. Sometimes I'm happy with one pint. Who woulda thought. You should notice the quality of sleep improving as you get into kava. Oh, don't abuse kava. Just take what you need.

Only buy NOble Kava. Period. I buy GHK because he grows his own kava and the same kava he sells to us is also consumed by him and his family and friends. Of course, GHK kavas have scored like the first 10 places on Deleted User's Test Results so the proof is in the puddin'.

One more thing, it would be nice if you had your liver enzymes checked BEFORE you start with kava. I would be nice if everybody did that so kava doesn't take a bum rap for an existing condition. For the record, the years of excessive drinking didn't mess up my liver (thank god) and I have past test results to back that up. Hopefully your experience will be the same.

Hi Deleted User01, and thanks for the reply. I think I might get some to try as a one off to see if I like it. This can't possibly do any harm, right? Then If I like it I can perhaps try and get my Dr to give me the once over to be on the safe side. Where are you located by the way? Im in the UK and suppliers seem to be limited. Its likely to be from this site http://www.globalkavaexports.com/malekula-magic-kava

Seems pricey though. 250g for 40 euros (about 43 usd)
How many doses is that for a beginner?

I'm in Texas. GKE is a good supplier of noble kava. The only problem for a beginner is he may or may not have any effects for a week or two. You still sleep well however. This is called Reverse Tolerance (RT). My daily dose is anywhere from 2 to 4 tablespoons of Micronized. As of late, I have been trending downward on my dose because I really don't need the extra doses to relax and sleep well. One more thing, you never drink beer together with kava. It may not kill ya but it's just a good safety rule. Like don't drink beer with Xanax.
