Moving foward, looking for the best shells to buy

Alright, so I finished Fire Island 55g and Shaman 55g .  Man is the Shaman awesome.  But I'm ready to move on to making my own.  I think I am going to try Stone next, and also I don't see anywhere that Nakamal sells shells.  Where can I find the best kit (Shells, cloths, etc..).  Or what would be the best shells to get in your opinions?

I bought my shell at bula kava house and it is great. I recommend getting a Fijian strainer bag from Paradise kava as the muslin bags everyone else has are pretty crappy and N@H's are actually just paint strainer bags. We actually have a forum member who is carving their own shells and making strainer bags as well and selling them on etsy. I'm thinking of getting one because my shell is huge holding about 28 oz of fluid and I'd like an 8 oz size. Just scroll down the topics and find the carved shells available on etsy thread.

I'm not the biggest fan of their kava, although their isa is rather nice.

I do like the woven lauhala basket and use it for storing my kava and kava accessories. The Easter-basket grass creates a really nice effect.

In addition to a shell, there is also a shell holder, so that the little guy can't roll away from you and spill your grog everywhere.

The strainer bags really are top-notch.

that is one huge shell. I also have a bula shell and mine is big.. But not that big lol. And to the OP, I do sell hand carved, all natural coconut shells in two sizes, 4oz and 8oz (the 8oz ones are lovely). If you want to check them out you can go to http://www.etsy.com/shop/kavacrafts

Thanks for the responses guys, and Krunked your shells look awesome. I am a little confused with the price, how much for 2 8oz shipped?

That would be around 11.30 for shipping because they have to go in a bigger box instead of a padded envelope so the post office charges extra. It is 5.30 for shipping if you just order one

Not to undermine Krunkout's artisanship (they're very nice) , but you dont really need to buy them. Just go buy and enjoy a few coconuts. Cut them in half and stylize the outer shell as wanted. Now, I have yet to actually do this myself so maybe I'm missing something, but I did eat a coconut not too long ago and it looked like it would be pretty easy.

I did that myself a while back, but it didn't work out too well. I got the half of the shell that I liked best all cleaned and nicely trimmed down, then for some reason it cracked, then it cracked again... no idea why. I never washed it or anything, just rinsed it out.

you're absolutely right. I am not here to make a quick buck on shells I am just trying to spread the love of kava by sharing something that I love. If someone had the proper tools and such then anyone could make shells. I just try to make it easier because a lot of people don't want to take the time to clean the coconut, sand it, carve it, and polish it. But thank you for brining this up and this goes out to everyone here. You don't HAVE to buy these, just my way of trying to give back is all :)

try to just wipe them out with a paper towel. And also try to rub them with olive oil every couple months to condition the coconut.

Hey Krunkedout. Any plans to ship to Europe soon?
another note on over seas shipping. It is more expensive and I would feel bad about passing that price to you. Because what if it showed up and was cracked or something horrible like that. Or what if it showed up and you didn't like it. I would just feel awful if you had to pay so much for something that you didn't like, but I will do my research on overseas prices and see if I can find a good deal :)
