What's new

My new Journey w the Lovely Kava & Unrestful sleep with one Waka, maybe Squanch will be different?

Hi, Im new to this beautiful plant. Started with Old Roots Instant which was just magical...quite heady and to my surprise really had me focused all day and tackling my to-do list wih fervor. I hoped to recreate that, more affordably, with the Figi Vananua Loloma Waka. (I had read that Instant was headier/ less sedating than the same Medium Grind, so Old Roots med grind seemed it would be too sedating) The Loloma medium grind was a completly different experince from the Instant in a not so good way. It was strong and fairly enjoyble, but not even close to that clean, clear, focused feeling that i could take in the morning and enjoy all day..Much more sedative, altering and consuming...and this is with 1-2 Tbsps a day in the Aluball.

One thing with both of these, and especially the Loloma med grind, is that it caused my sleep qualty to suffer. Id wake up in the middle of the night wide awake someties, and generally wake up tired and a bit unrested. I've also have some Palarasul at the same time, but that hasnt really worked for me, to my surprise. It was either really subtle or if i did a little bit more it would get edgy and still not near the bliss i get from the wakas. I am dealing with chronic health stuff, so maybe thats factoring in.

Im thinkning to try Malo Tonga, though its said to not work that great w Aluball, and money is a big factor. (Blending would be too hard on my stomach) I also really love the vibe I get from the Figin Wakas- minus the negatives i mentioned, and they really work well economically with the Aluball. So Squanch has my attention. Is it possible that i could have had unrestful sleep with one Waka, and another-The Squanch-could be completly differnt? Or are Wakas just not for me at this time. Thanks Alot to anyone who read all this.

Kava can be a real trial and error. The most important thing to understand is the chemotypes which are a 6 digit number that represents the way the kavalactones get broken down. Your favorite is 4-2-5-6-3-1. The loloma you are mentioning is 2-4-5-3-6-1 and honestly is more in the "balanced-heady" stage. It sounds like you are a textbook heady-head. Try Moi from Gourmet Hawiian Kava. Keep in mind even between people individual variation is huge.

I was a big squanch-head for a while. It might work for you. But I really think you should aim for the headiest you can find.

Yeah it sure is! After the incredible all day focus and deep attention to whatever I was doing with the Old Roots Instant, I was shouting from the rooftops to everyone I knew to get some Kava..but after the totally differnt results from other strains, Ive quieted right down..still something Ill absolutely recomend to someone trying to drink less, but need to do more exploring before sharing much more.

So far Ive been thinking the pure Headys wouldnt last long enough and be economical enough, especially with the aluball. But Ive been microdosing in the morning lately, which has been amazing, so maybe a late afternoon/ early evening session is all I need. Yeah Ive researched Headys quite a bit...Moi, Kelai, and Puariki are some Id like to try. The Palarasul I tried wasnt the NAH/Kava Society one, so maybe that could be worth trying at some point...

Im also in the process of building a little rig that you connect a drill to that has the same motion as the Kavafied Machine / Bubble Tea shaker. Its actually a very simple mechanism..So that could get a bit more out of Aluballing some heady strains..

Thanks for the response, it was very helpful!

While I applaud your ingenuity, it's easier to buy a 75 micron bag, kavafied sells them too or buy it on Amazon for a bit less. Get some nitrile gloves and you are good. If your goal is to skip kneading then I recommend a simple house blender and pour through said 75 micron bag, squeeze once, to get it all out and done, either way you have way more capacity on prep.

Kava wise, Malo Tongan is a good one, I saw you mention it, that's a good pick. Mo'i for sure as well as Squanch Lewena (almost out)

Yeah, I looked quite a bit into the myriad of techniques. Unfortunately I have arthritic hand conditions and being a guitarist, I cant tax my hands any more than they are. The blender method looks potent but I have stomach issues and even the Loloma Waka med grind/Aluball was giving me problems. My plan is to get a 30-40 micron bag to strain it after the aluball to see if that helps. I imagine once I get that super fine bag, I will try the blended method through that, but from what Ive read, blended will be hardest on the stomach.

Ill definately try the Malo Tonga at some point, seems nice. Is the Squanch Lewana much stonger than others? The low strength and corresponding economics kindof turned me off of trying Lewanas for now.

In that case, the smaller bags are going to be harder to squeeze, a few months ago i bought a portable washing machine as a goof to make kava and it turned out pretty potent. Messy in my opinion but maybe for someone such as yourself, might be worth looking into it. Can't find the thread now, I'll edit this when I do

Good point... As i mentioned, the Bubble Tea Shaker mechanics are surprisingly simple and basic. I think a simple little rig that you throw a drill on for 60-90 seconds would be perfect.

Since you're developing rigs I think you've reached the threshold for membership into the Kava society. We just need a blood sample.

By the way as for machines I have one from Kavafied I never used. I bought the automatic one, I think I sent it back as well cause ti was too big, then I ordered the manual one and just got lazy and it's in the basement gathering dust. I would of even offered it to you as a real discount, but with your hands I might as well suggest you make Kava doing gymnastics.

Both of these are overpriced go to Amazon and buy it for a fraction of that price. If you want the pretty Kavafied logo sure, spend $250. He is asking way too much for those two products.

Don't get me too excited with your financial tips babycakes. I'm not quite sure looking at this that it achieves the same easy insert at the top though. Seems like you'd need to really tie a bag and throw it in there. I might just be retarded.
