My New Storage Method

Here is my new method I started today for storing kava. I make a very strong batch and only need to drink 3-4 ounces of kava to get krunk.I bought a 1 ounce icecube tray (actually made for baby food) and started freezing 1 ounce cubes of kava. Now i can keep several varieties frozen and just defrost a few cubes when i need it. It allows me to have more varieties available depending on what i'm in the mood for and also much easy to mix kavas, how about 2 ounces of boroguru and 1 ounce of stone? These trays are nice, they stack into each other and arent very tall, i can fit them on the bottom shelf of my freezer. The two trays hold 42 cubes.

Wow. That's awesome! You have skills, because if I were to pour that in cube trays I'd inevitably have spilled it everywhere.

Funny, that's how I store our homemade babyfood for my daughter... wouldn't want to mix those up.  Might help her sleep better though!

I'm with Kapm... I would have made such a mess. I don't think I could risk the loss of kava.

How DID you keep from making a mess? Did you use a turkey baster or something to fill each one?

lol, no i guess i just got lucky. I usually store kava in the fridge in a 32 oz plastic container, i just poured it from that. I think maybe subconsciously i was extra careful as i didnt want to lose any :)

You did a perfect job. Or you're good at covering up evidence :)

Anyways, the top picture I can't stop looking at. Looks like the kava was made to be in those forms. I like the spectrum of tans and browns.

That looks great! I have a question though, would freezing and thawing at a later date have any negative effect on the potency of your brew? If not, I'm doing it (smiley: happy)

Nope, it will not effect the strength. Fresh frozen kava illustrates this very well.

I wonder if the freezing could shatter the kava cell walls making it easier for our bodies to soak up the kavalactones?

It may be slightly plausible, but you'd need a much stronger reaction. Possibly by freezing it liquid nitrogen and then pummeling it with ultrasonic frequencies may be able to explode the cells. The process would expensive and time consuming though, but I would do it in a second if I had the equipment.

Oh man, these would be hilarious to leave in the freezer and wait for my sister to grab one.

That is a good idea though. I got some Togan left over I think I'll try making some kava Popsicles with.

Heres my first use. I had to run it under hot water for a second, then they popped right out.I can attest that the strength is unchanged. In fact for some reason my mouth got more numb than it usually does, maybe i just mixed a stronger batch.Heres pics: (sorry cant unrotate the pics)

This is pretty awesome! Have you ever considered vacuum sealing the cubes and letting them thaw in that? That would probably make it so the kava could be stored in the fridge for a long time period. Then all you would have to do is grab a kava packet and cut it open and dump it In a glass!

Yeah, that sounds cool. I think the freezer thing will work better for me since I can have much longer shelf life and keep it organized easier. Also don't have a vacuum sealer.

It worked great today. I might get 2 more trays and have an even bigger menu to pick from :)

kava slushy.

might be hard to tell from the pic, but i blended up four cubes to make a stone kava slushy.I didnt feel like waiting for it to defrost. It was interesting, a little harder to drink because of slushy form, but taste was a little more mellow.Another thing that is interesting, stone usually takes 15 minutes for me to kick in on the dot, this slushy took 25-30 min, but then it was full effect
