My oil extraction

Today I attempted to do an oil extraction from the instructions that I found on here. I did quarter of a cup of Boroguru to half a cup of olive oil and stuck it in the oven for an hour at 175. I wish I had taken it out earlier as it was just beginning to burn and the oil has a slight burnt taste to it now. I was left with a small amount of very potent yellow oil which had separated from the bottom layer which I put into one glass and the sludge which I put into another glass with the hope that the oil would rise to the top.

I sampled a small tea spoon from the clear oil and it tasted how engine oil smells. It made my tongue and mouth go numb and tasted disgusting. The effects are the strongest that I have had so very very pleasant with no anxiety at all like I have been getting sometimes by drinking it. I didnt feel sleepy I took the dogs for a run and everything was nice and calm.

Just had another half a tea spoon and now have subtle feeling of serene bliss, which is what I wanted.

Why would I be feeling anxious when drinking it but feel damn good with an extraction?

Next time I will try not to burn it as it tastes wrong!

Would a microwave oil extraction work?

A lot of people here have said that the extraction brings out only the head effects, which is probably what you've been looking for. A good strain for more head effects and less to almost no body effects, check out nambawan; maybe that one won't give you anxiety? Who knows about the microwave... It's very difficult to regulate temp in a microwave.

Glad to hear that you're getting better results with the oil.

Yeah microwaves are crazy man, I would stick with oven/stovetop.

What are the current thoughts about heat ruining kava?

I tried the microwave extraction. Did it small scale and used 1 tbs in a cup with some olive oil and a tiny splash of water. I heated for thirty seconds, stirred then did another 30 seconds, a couple of tea spoons off the liquid on top made a strong numbing sensation and a strong relaxing affect. I then put it back in for another 30 secs which made it bubble like and spit like crazy and is to hot to try. I may have ruined it but I will sample later.

Last night I had a few more spoons of the engine oil; each one seemed to have a very strong immediate effect that lasted 5ish minutes and left a nice calmness. Went to be had vivid dreams and slept like a log, best sleep I have had in a long time, woke at 7am ish feeling very sluggish but managed to shake it off after an hour. If the my new batch works I will discard the Castrol GTX as the taste is just to bad.

Had a spoonful of the new stuff, it is much better tasting, still made mouth go numb but not quite as much.

Dissolved on the tongue the effects seem to come on very quickly and seems to come in waves nice and subtly

Cant be a placebo surely.

I believe it's something like boiling water degrades 5% of kavalactones over a timespan of 5 min but increases extraction by 15%. So even though you lose 5% kavalactones, you still gain 10%. So it is more efficient. However, I don't use hot water when making my kava because it makes it taste HORRID!! The only time I use warm water I make sure it's not hot an only warm. But for an oil extraction, it makes sense because it's concentrated and you don't need to drink shell fulls :)

I did a coconut oil extraction on the hob this afternoon, used a splash of olive oil and water. Set well in the fridge and dissolves nicely under the tongue with good numbing effect.

Effects seem equally as good as the oil extraction but without the taste.

Happy days ;)
