New 2 Kava.Help Me!

Me and my friend decided we would try this as an alternative to alcohol on those long days after school and work.I have a pound of Fiji 1 on the way along with a nylon strainer and 75g of lecithin.I've had the instant fire island from N @ H but other than that I'm completely new at this and so is my buddy I understand the serving size for regular users is about 3 4oz shells so I was wondering how I shouldstart this off until my reverse tolerance builds up. Some sites say 1 cup kava to a gallon water and some say 1 cup to 2-4 cups water. I'm not looking to have a kava party soon just want to drink some with my working buddy on those stressful days after work so how much should I make where me and him could have 3-4 shells each? What ratio should I use? How much lecithin should I use for that many shells? Please state your opinion on what to do for my tolerance.Should I start off stronger so the kavaactones build up or make it weaker?Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I've been drinking kava for about 2 years now and find it a much better stress reliever than alcohol. I was in your shoes, looking for a replacement for booze. Just remember that kava is different from alcohol. It's more of a relaxation enhancer than a buzz or high that alcohol provides. Also, don't mix the two.

Tonight, I prepared around 6 tablespoons of Hiwa from Hawaiian Kava Center (out of stock) in about 3 cups of water for myself. I usually go with 2 tablespoons per cup, maybe more or less. It's an art, not a science. You can always put leftovers in the fridge. I then squeeze and kneed it in the nylon strainer for at least 3-5 minutes. Then that's it. I don't use lecithin as I've noticed no change in effectiveness. Drinking on an empty stomach will enhance the effectiveness.

It's best to experiment with different amounts and everyone has their own method. When I was starting out, too much of the particulate matter at the bottom would make me nauseous (only a few times though), so be sure to strain well and don't drink too much of the thick particles on the bottom. Some of the lighter particles are good, but the heavy, more sandy particles seem to be a little too strong for me. Good luck!

I make it the same way as alohasteve but I tend to kneed a little bit longer. It is sometimes nice to have leftovers. Last night I made a large batch of fresh frozen kava and had a shell this morning. That's not possible with all kavas. Some are too strong. If you find yourself with a lot of particulate matter at the bottom, it's helpful to pour the already strained kava through the strainer, then squeeze out the strainer once more.

I would stick with Fire Island with a ratio of 1 teaspoon to 4 oz of water, skipping the lecithin, and drinking a cup of herbal tea between each shell. In fact, that is what I did do for the first couple of weeks. Do about 2-4 shells depending on how you feel, but drink five shells every fortnight or so to test your sensitivity. If five shells sends you into the oh-zone, then you have a basis of comparison to start making kava from roots with.
