New guy needs help.

Hello everyone,

So i recently started drinking Kava after a long stint of K@ abuse which i have finally put behind me. Anyways ive been noticing when i drink Kava i get a scratchy throat and watery eyes. All of this seems like the onset of a cold. Does this sound like I'm allergic to this plant or maybe im doing something wrong all together. I have been taking the instant from BKH and melo melo prepared the traditional way double strained. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

All i can offer is a suggestion or two, please don't consider this medical advice in any fashion, and if you feel like it's harming your health in any way please stop use and get a professional opinion. That said, if it doesn't bother you too much, maybe try taking some of the root or drink and rub it on your arm and see if any hives develop. Just a thought but that might show you an allergic reaction. Being a person with food allergies, i'll notice hives sometimes if i eat the wrong thing. Only other thing i could think of is that some root pieces are still getting through and causing issues with your throat. Or, maybe you are catching a cold after all?

I wish you luck as you figure this out and hopefully it's nothing that will keep you from experiencing the benefits of kava.

That sounds like it could be an allergic reaction, which is something that unfortunately happens to some people.

Does it happen each and every time you drink kava? Try taking an antihistamine like Benadryl after you've noticed the reaction and see if it doesn't reverse the symptoms.

It seems to happen to some degree each time. I will give Benadryl a shot and see if that helps. I get the good effects from kava too and love it, so it would be a shame if i was allergic to it.
