I was just talking to krunkedout about this, it is my new theory on kava strength. I noticed that a lot of people on here mix a more watered down batch than I do ( I make 1cuproot:2cupwater) and then they drink their entire batch throughout the night. I was under the impression that they were using less kava root per night than I was, but after talking with krunked I did the math and was surprised to find out that I actually use less root per session than he did.
Here is my theory why this works:You need a strong loading dose of kava to achieve the best and most efficient effect from kava. I made one of my batches of 1 cup root to 2 cups of water and did an experiment. I usually only drink 3-4 ounces of this strength to get a nice krunk going. So one night I had 6 ounces which I took as a shot, slammed it as fast as I could. In 15 min I was wasted, stumbling around slurring speech. The next night I had 3 ounces as my first shot followed 15 min later by a second 3 ounce shot. While it got me nicely buzzed it was nowhere near the effect of drinking the entire 6 ounces as the first drink. I have repeated this several times and it always works the same on me. No matter how much of a batch I drink the initial loading dose sets up sort of a baseline that the rest of the drinking is based off of. One night I ended up drinking close to 20 ounces but never got a very strong effect because my first dose was too small.
If this theory acts the same on other people then I would conclude that people are actually wasting kava by drinking too little root because they end up drinking their entire batch.
For some people it sounds like a waste to use 1 cup of root for a batch but here are the numbers comparing my batch and krunkeds batch (let me know if my numbers are off)My mix is 16 tablespoons (1 cup) to 2 cups water giving me 16oz total liquid, I drink 4 ounces so I get 4 servings per batch so I end up using 4 tablespoons per serving (sometimes I only need 3 oz so in that case I use 3 tablespoons)
Krunkedout uses 6-8 tablespoons of root to 3 cups of water which makes a very diluted batch compared to mine but he ends up drinking the entire batch in one night. So he is using 6-8 tablespoons per night versus 3-4 tablespoons per night for me. So while it sounds like I am using too much root compared to others, in my experience you get a stronger effect from a more concentrated dose taken all at once instead of spread out through the evening.
