New Kava Strength Ratio Theory

I was just talking to krunkedout about this, it is my new theory on kava strength. I noticed that a lot of people on here mix a more watered down batch than I do ( I make 1cuproot:2cupwater) and then they drink their entire batch throughout the night. I was under the impression that they were using less kava root per night than I was, but after talking with krunked I did the math and was surprised to find out that I actually use less root per session than he did.
Here is my theory why this works:You need a strong loading dose of kava to achieve the best and most efficient effect from kava. I made one of my batches of 1 cup root to 2 cups of water and did an experiment. I usually only drink 3-4 ounces of this strength to get a nice krunk going. So one night I had 6 ounces which I took as a shot, slammed it as fast as I could. In 15 min I was wasted, stumbling around slurring speech. The next night I had 3 ounces as my first shot followed 15 min later by a second 3 ounce shot. While it got me nicely buzzed it was nowhere near the effect of drinking the entire 6 ounces as the first drink. I have repeated this several times and it always works the same on me. No matter how much of a batch I drink the initial loading dose sets up sort of a baseline that the rest of the drinking is based off of. One night I ended up drinking close to 20 ounces but never got a very strong effect because my first dose was too small.
If this theory acts the same on other people then I would conclude that people are actually wasting kava by drinking too little root because they end up drinking their entire batch.
For some people it sounds like a waste to use 1 cup of root for a batch but here are the numbers comparing my batch and krunkeds batch (let me know if my numbers are off)My mix is 16 tablespoons (1 cup) to 2 cups water giving me 16oz total liquid, I drink 4 ounces so I get 4 servings per batch so I end up using 4 tablespoons per serving (sometimes I only need 3  oz so in that case I use 3 tablespoons)
Krunkedout uses 6-8 tablespoons of root  to 3 cups of water which makes a very diluted batch compared to mine but he ends up drinking the entire batch in one night. So he is using 6-8 tablespoons per night versus 3-4 tablespoons per night for me. So while it sounds like I am using too much root compared to others, in my experience you get a stronger effect from a more concentrated dose taken all at once instead of spread out through the evening.
Thoughts?

Try 2 heaped tablespoons in 10 oz. of water.(smiley: grin)
Mmmm...thick.
I only drink once or twice a week on average though. I can make 1 lb last 3.5- 4 months max.
If I used 1 cup root per 2 cups water I'd be out of kava real damn quick.

Hmmm. It seems one possible thing to do, given this phenomenon, would be to add 1-2 teaspoons of instant kava to one's first shell, to set the standard high.

It seams to me that before getting krunk was sort of an unstable thing that differed greatly between sessions. Like I may be like last time, it may not... But I personally feel tht because of all the wonderful discussions here it had become more and more refined as we all have those learning experiences. And I think this may be that next step in the evolutionary climb in the kava drinking community. Who knows, maybe we will eventually get "getting krunk" down to a science. Like "must have such and such hours exactly before you last meal. Must drink exactly this amount with this strength on your first shell and then exactly five minuets later drink this amount" of course there would still be personal opinions and what we as individuals enjoy most; but it would be neat if we could boil down the key to getting the best krunk you can out of a session into some precise things that come into account. That way we could always recreate that one strong ass krunk that can sometimes elude us all.

I don't want to derail the thread, but this got me thinking krunkedout -- we're probably the only substance-based community that does not have its own "FAQ" or "WIKI" regarding what it is exactly we do and how it's done.

A kavalounge wiki-type-thing would be awesome. All of the fruits of our discussions and knowledge in one organized, member based place. Not only that, but actual scientific journal entries and studies regarding kava would be stored there for stable ease of access.

Interesting post. I've never measured in cups, but when you guys talk about tablespoons, are you talking flat, rounded, or heaping. 16 of the big heaping tablespoons I use sounds like a lot. Which of these pics would your spoons most look like (ignore the fact they're teaspoons, not tablespoons).

I've tried it both ways, and although I'll admit that the initial effects are much stronger when taking a strong dose quickly, I greatly prefer the effects of slowly going through my batch over an hour or so.  The effects seem more pleasant and long lasting, wasting or not.

I've been using rounded tablespoons due to my understanding of a parable John Frum did speaketh unto his people.

"And lo, Goldenlocks did find the sacred kava of the bears.

And the Father of the Bears had made unto himself grog using heaping tablespoons, and it was too thick.

And the Mother of the Bears had made unto herself grog using level tablespoons, and it was too thin.

But the wisest and most noble of the Bears, the Bear Babe, hath made grog using rounded tablespoons, and thus his grog is legendary and pleaseth well his ancestors.

Goldenlocks did partake of the grog of the Bear Babe, and did becometh sleepy.

So she ventured into the bed chamber of the Bears, wheren she found three beds.

The bed of the Father of Bears was a futon, which is the Japanese word for 'back pain,' for it is too hard.

The bed of the Mother of Bears was made of down, which was too soft.

But the Babe of Bears had a vasoelastic memory foam bed, which pleaseth the back and aids the bringing of sleep, and thus Goldenlocks did sleep upon such a bed.

She was still asleep when the bears did come upon her.

Papa Bear cooked and ate Goldenlocks well done, which was too tough.

Mama Bear cooked and ate Goldenlocks rare, which was too bloody.

But the Babe of Bears ate her medium rare, which was tender and tasty and pleasing to the ancestors.

Thus, I say unto you, my people, if you steal my kava, I shall cook you and eat you, for John Frum shall is generous with those whom keep kastom, but shall not suffer a thief to live."

i use a cup measurer, when i use tablespoons i use an actual tablespoon measurer and make it a level tablespoon

vetka, if u did my method i would suggest freezing the rest of the batch so u can use it next week. my ratio works out to 1 tablespoon per 1 ounce of water.

This sounds about what I'm used to. It's frightens me every night. Ode to the thick, bitter chocolate milk. The relief of finishing it afterwards is nearly equal to the effect it has.

jut out of curiosity, what is your ratio? And do you consume the whole batch?

One cup/2 cups water? Wow. I finally got legit krunk the other night, but that was on only half a cup : O

I'm a lightweight. Or you guys are krunk champions. Probably both.

Well I made the 1:2 batch... I drank 4oz at first. After about 5or 10 min I didn't feel anything so I drank two more. Now I had a nice buzz but not a krunk so I drank two more... All in all I drank 12oz of the liquid and a couple shells of a second straining that I made with warm water. I did not however take I to account that the strain I am using is sort of a creeper kava... Yeah... I'm pretty krunk right now.. I had to put on sunglasses in my kitchen.
