Looks like this Act - if it is enforced - will have a major knock-on effect to prices of Vanuatu kava sold overseas. Until recently people were selling dried root for half this prescribed new price:

KAVA ACT No. 7 of 2002.
Minimum Price for the sale of dried kava Regulation Order No. 17 of 2021.
1. The Minimum Price for the sale of dried Kava is an amount not less that VT 2,000 per kilogram.
2. For the purpose of this order, dried kava means dried forms of kava roots and chips with a moisture content of not more than 12%.
Effective on Wednesday 24th March 2021

i believe peopl have been selling it at this price or higher for a while. green kava costs between 700 and 1000 vatu. dry kava has always cost much more
Yes of course - whilst trying to do 5 things at once I got fresh/dry mixed up! So the Act amendment doesn't actually do anything that the market hadn't already achieved some time ago.

It’s good to see some farmer protections. It would be great to see more of the fair to life concepts enter this market.
It seems like farming kava is really helping local communities out.
