hello everyone, im new to kava, pretty much decided to get into it to unwind from a really hectic schedule and persistent lack of sleep. took capsules with ok results but last week I got a can of Shaman kava 55 gr and just started consnuming it like a maniac over a weekend. finished it a nd then took a whole can of capsules. nect thing you know I got hives and itchiness in my inner thighs region. I took benadryl and used hydrocortisone cream to ease the itchiness. I wonder if that hAppened because I took a wjole lot or im simply allergic to kava which would totally suck cause I found it really helpful. need some useful info

Other folks have had similar reactions to yours, much worse even. It seems like it happens when people really go above their norm. So I would probably say it happened because of the quantity you used.

Your reaction does seem less harsh than others. I would let your body clean itself out a bit before trying again, then hopefully you can ease back in at a smaller amount to let your body acclimate to it before using larger quantities.

Unfortunately some folks who have had this reaction couldn't go back, even the smallest amount of kava and they'd break out, but others it doesn't seem to do that. Hopefully you're more lucky.

I pretty much WOULD sacrifice a lamb for an opportunity to use kava without these hives. I really hope I had this issue only because I consumed too much. Also, I didnt stay well hydrated, may be that made it worse?

I too got a kava rash when just starting. It was brought on by a big over consumption to break down my resistance. I kept at kava at a much lower level and just road out the rash, which got better over a few days. Not everyone gets it, but at least for me it was just a transition and probably due to over rushing things ('no patience' is my middle name ;-) )

Some Tongan Kava does this to people. I haven't quite figured it out, but my best guesses are either too mineral rich of soil, or a mycotoxin from improperly dried material.
