Newbie here..Recipe Suggestions

So far ive tried some Nakamal@Home fire island mix...and unfortuantely before finding this board i ordered some Kona Kava instant mix.  So that's the extent of what ive tried so far.  I have some Stone kava on its way and this will be my first time making kava myself.  I've noticed that ratios of kava to water vary so much from vendor to vendor, and person to person.  Some say a cup of kava to 2 cups..some 2 or 3 tablespoons to 1 cup.  Im guess i'll just have to find out what a good ratio is for me.  But i need to start somewhere.

What kind of ratio do you guys use in your recipes?

Yes, it does vary from vendor to vendor and person to person. I think to a certain degree it's a matter of personal preference. Obviously someone with a kava bar like Judd here on the forums is going to use a much higher Kava:water ratio than me or you. Then it's a matter of opinion. For example I don't particularly see the benefit of using a whole cup of root into 2 or 3 cups of water. Kava can be expensive. Why not try and make it last?

It can still be quite effective with a much smaller amount. I personally use 2 tbsp of Kava root per 1-2 cups of water. I usually don't make it a point to accurately measure the water. But it's no less than 1 cup and no more than 2 cups.

I would suggest starting with 1 tbsp of Kava: 1 cup of water. Then try 2:1. then try 2:2 and so on until you find your sweet spot.

Typically I use canned coconut water which comes in a 16oz can. I use half the can and about half a cup of warm water to 1/4-1/3 cups kava root. I used to use 1/2 cup kava to 1 cup water or coconut water, but it tends to get expensive and it's easy to overshoot the good kava level. Also the longer you drink kava you will find that you will adjust to using less. Part of this is the reverse tolerance which for me begins working backwards if I consume too much kava within a set period of time so I keep it a couple times a week and really try to conserve my kava, this keeps the tolerance at perfect medium and allows for maximum enjoyment of my kava.
