Other Kava sources than listed

I live in Canada, and until recently it was difficult to get Kava sent here legally. Many online venders would not ship here. A few still don't. I notice from reading this forum that there are certain sources, Kona Kava for instance, that are somewhat frowned upon. This has me wondering about the quality of the Kava I have been using. In the past I have ordered from Kickbackwithkava and a place called z-eclectic. I  notice neither of these are discussed on the forum. After reading this forum I ordered some Paradise Hawaiian. It cost about double what I have paid in the past. According to the reviews this will be worth it. However, I'm curious what I can expect compared to the cheaper products from the other sources - both of which I found to be pretty good. Any input appreciated, thanks.

PS - I'd really like to try some of the Nakamal at Home products, but they dont appear to have gotten the memo that its ok to ship to Canada now. Anyone know what the deal is there? Thanks.

Thanks Judd. I have been reviewing this forum for the past few days and your stuff is spoken of very highly. I also have a half kilo of the black bag stuff enroute, which I'm really excited for.

I was curious though whether anyone was familiar with these specific vendors - kickbackwithkava and z-eclectic. As they are who I have dealt with in the past and I want to know how their product compares to the paradise awa and other items I ordered since finding this site.

Hi Buddhacide,

Speaking as an "independent" kava drinker I feel that one has to go on their own journey and discovery.  Like wine, there are many different chemotypes of kava that have different flavor upon preparation and different strengths.  Ever watch a great movie to find out that it got a C rating?  Or perhaps tried a $200 bottle of wine and it was crap?  I prefer smooth flavors that I can keep drinking while other prefer the hard stuff.  Also the smooth kava's don't make me feel bad or give me a stomach ache.  Also, post preparation (ie. adding coconut milk, or something else) can help a lot.

I encourage people to try many different kava's in sample size.  If possible try a couple side by side and hone in on your favorite. Sometimes price has little to do with quality, but sometimes it has a lot to do with it.  Look for vendors who are responsive and will answer your questions.  If they don't give you good service, then they probably won't sell you good kava.  Use your gut reaction...again, I have tried different strains at kava festivals and also bought my fare share.  Good luck and happy hunting :)

Aloha,
Steve
