So I have decided that I want to go about doing a 24 hour fast where I consume 0 calories... I figured if all goes well that I would do this once a week...

I figured kava might be of some use, for it's appetite suppressing effects, however, right before I go and order some kava king kava (which I plan on ordering anyway) I realized that kava king brand instant/micro has calories in it...

I happen to have to some GHK micro in my stash as of right now... Does anyone know if the micro that Chris sells contains calories or not? Maybe if he sees this he can answer that for me. I don't think I can get through a full day of not eating without some sort of appetite suppressant, ya know?

I'm hoping to increase my testosterone and rapidly increase the production of human growth hormone, and apparently this could really help with that.

I figured that between being krunked off my ass and sipping on some calorie free polar brand seltzer that I would be able to get through the day much easier. I know this might sound a bit crazy or at least strange, but I really wanna try this. I think I can pull it off too, since I accepted the cold shower challenge for 8 minutes every day and have been going strong with that one for almost 4 months now!

So is there a calorie free kava out there, or am I fucked on this one? Thanks

I've never done 24 hours of total fasting, but I quite like the idea of intermittent fasting and having one or two days per week with just 500 kcal. It's way more manageable and the results (when it comes to the health benefits of occasional fasting) seem to be the same. I have found that kava works great on these days both because it suppresses appetite and also because it feels very, very strong after many hours of fasting. :)

Right, well that's what I figured. I'd get a potency boost because of the fact that food hasn't been in my belly for quite a lot of time compared to my usual habits.

If the kava has calories in it though, then the fasting would be all for nothing! I have to go a full day without any calories... I wonder if the GHK Micro is without calories or not...

Well, I am pretty sure that kava has SOME calories. So for some reason you've decided not to consumer absolutely anything other than water, then you shouldn't drink kava.
However, I would encourage you to research whether the benefits of a zero calories fasting days are really so much greater than the benefits of 200-300 kcal per fasting day..

So, there's a little bit. If you drink unstrained kava, there's definitely a little bit of starch. Instant or well-strained would be the only way to avoid calories; that should have so little as to be negligible.

FWIW, I would also be concerned possibly about drinking kava after glycogen depletion in the liver begins occurring. I don't think there is any data on kava during 24hr fasts.

So how many calories do you personally consume when doing your own fasts? How many days a week, and also, have you had any benefits?

Noticeable ones, I mean. Thanks.

@kavadude You mention well strained and instant having negligible amounts of calories, making them ideal for the fast... But when you say "unstrained kava" are you referring to micro?

Apx 500. Once per week. I lost a bit of weight and felt more energetic on my fasting days. Apparently, research suggests that occasional fasting offers a lot of health benefits. I guess moderation is the key. I wouldn't be able to do 24h with absolutely no food as I might find it hard to fall asleep, but 24h with just 500kcal once a week is quite manageable and refreshing. I guess there is a reason why most religions promote some form of fasting.

I am not a fan of making my life harder than it is. I was curious to try intermittent fasting and I enjoyed combining it with a moderate kava intake. It wasn't too difficult or painful and I did feel OK both on my fasting days and the next day. But I don't do it anymore as I got a little bit bored and really enjoy my family breakfasts. :)

Assuming you don't strain it (some people do), yes. Kava root contains starch, which is not water soluble. We have members who are on ketogenic diets and who don't get knocked out of ketosis by drinking kava; I don't think there is any evidence to suggest that prepared kava contains a non-negligible amount of carbohydrates.

Haha yea I feel ya, man. In truth, other than all of the other great health benefits that this practice supposedly brings, I really want a nice set of abs. I can already see them a little, but they need that edge!

@kavadude I'm confused... What do you recommend that I do then? I have micro from GHK like I said, and plan on getting some kava from kava king really soon. The instant/micro that they sell contains 10 calories per teaspoon, and I don't think I'd be using more than 10 teaspoons in one day so that's less than 100 calories...

If I just use the GHK micro instead, will I be getting calories, or just carbs from the starch?

Carbohydrates are a macronutrient that carries 4 calories per gram. This is where the calories in kava root come from. Read the thread I posted.

If your goal is to drink zero calories, you definitely shouldn't consume micronized kava. Well strained kava has very close to none. As to whether it counts as strict fasting as far as your body is concerned, I don't know.

@Shredder, I wouldn't go 0 calories or zero food if you are a relatively young man. Eat some rabbit food. Squeeze some lime on it. That's still super low cal but at least you won't faint in the middle of the day. And if you want to increase your testostorone, just ask @HeadHodge to lend you some of his porn. Jeez, blew that joke. I don't even know how to spell testosjerome.

After reading some of @HeadHodge's post, I am not sure any porn he has would work on testosjerome levels. I sure it would work on something though... :)

@HeadHodge send me some of his finest porn the other day (to prove a point). My gawd, the Playboy Centerfold from 1950ish. One piece swim suit, beehive hairdo, and a look on her face that said, "Come Fly With Me". OMG, :jawdrop: What the hell is there not to like about that. :woot: Gosh, just thinking about it makes my testosbologne go up a few notches. ::ricky::
