Recommend a kava strain for a guy with high tolerance. Questions about using Kava in a blender

Kava Curious
I've been reading up on kava off and on for a few weeks now and I'm still a little unsure about what brand or strain to go with. I've been hearing a lot of people say positive things about Stone, Solomon, Paradise, Chief's Jungle and Wow. But on the other hand I've also heard people say that those same brands had no effect or that depending on the batch it can be weak. Trying to find kava reviews are a bit difficult as some of the information I've read seems to be 2-3 years old and the one blog I found on Kava ( kavasseur.blogspot.com/ )seems that it could be possibly more of a commercial for the vendors than unbiased reviews (I apologize to the blog writer if I'm incorrect about that assumption). At any rate since Kava is a bit expensive, before I spend any money I'd like to get a few suggestions from the experienced awa drinkers.
My tolerance seems to be a bit high based on current and previous experience with alcohol and weed (I've never tried anything harder than those 2 things). My size could be a factor, I'm a big guy (6'4 & 260). About a month ago I bought a small bag of powdered root kava from a local healthfood store. Using a blender I combined kava powder, coconut milk, lecithin and brown sugar with ice, the first time I got a very light but pleasant buzz that lasted about 20 minutes along with the tingly lip sensation. Subsequent mixtures were barely noticeable moments of slight relaxation. Since then I've learned that I may have gotten better results using warm water/liquids as opposed to cold or iced. The last couple of days I've been taking a few capsules of Kava and Passion Flower which has resulted in very minimal effects. I'd love to find a good strain of kava which would lend to maybe 3-4 hours of a decent relaxing session.
Any suggestions on a good strain and preparation method? Also is kava more effective in a blender or extracted the more traditional way?

Last thing I made in a blender. I used, if I remember, a combination of hot water and luke-warm Ginger Honey tea. I strained it through a nylon strainer bag, also available from the same site. I used two rounded tablespoons for one pint of water, blended for about 4 minutes 20 seconds. I also added a teaspoon of the lecithin from Lewis labs, which as a pleasant piña colada flavor.

I have pretty high tolerance too. Stone was the kava that first got me feeling anything, so I would probably recommend that one for anyone struggling to get a sensation.

Someone posted a study here a while back that showed that blending in reasonably hot water was actually more effective extracting kavalactones than the traditional method, which I think surprised a lot of people here. Personally, I almost always do both.

yes it's no scam there. When I first became a kavasseur, I used his recommendations before I made purchases. Very superb reviews.

I am far from an expert, but my limited experience may help:
(1) The only time I used a blender (and then strained) I got gas/diarrhea bad enough to go into orbit.

(2) It probably varies with the dry root you are using, but I have found that soaking first for an hour before kneading for 5 minutes or so makes a big difference. I use Vanautu borogu with a Fiji strainer bag at a rate of 7g per 125 ml of room temperature water = 1 shell. I consume the shells 10 minutes apart. You will have to experiment on the number of shells you need to get the effect you want.

(3) I consume kava on an empty stomach, i.e. about 5 pm when I last had something to eat at midday.

(4) I keep my kava in a double ziploc bag in the fridge. I squeeze out all the air in the first bag containing the kava and then put that bag into another ziploc bag and remove the air from that.

May the crunk be with you. (smiley: happy)

yeah i tried the moderately hot water method last night with my chiefs jungle last night and it left me with a terribly bitter almost undrinkable grog. (thank god i only made 2 cups because it was the most godawfull thing i have EVER tasted) i didnt notice to much of a difference in potency. i have always just made it traditionally and was really starting to like the taste. especially of the chiefs jungle. up until i tried this stuff i was getting minimal effects. the chiefs jungle is really strong, i received mine about a week and a half ago and over thanksgiving 4 day break i went steady krunked ;) . using 2-3 tablespoons per cup of water.

Thanks for the feedback guys, I decided to go with Chief's Jungle. I ordered this morning and it was shipped not long after (fast service). Looking forward to trying it out next week.
