Reverse Tolerance Thread?

As a newb who has not yet broken through RT, I was thinking that it might be useful for beginners to have a bunch of reference points for the process.

How about a thread where people post a few lines about there journey through RT, so that we can get a sense of how it goes? Better understanding this process must be an important part of making this herb more popular!

I remember going through my reverse tolerance by drinking increasingly large amounts of kava. I also went through my first batch of kava with a muslin bag that was far too fine and probably reduced the potency of the kava a lot. When I think about the amounts of kava I drank without feeling much of anything, it's pretty crazy. One of the first nights I remember getting really krunked I drank a whole tea pitcher full of boroguru throughout the night.
I would recommend taking it easy and not getting impatient like I did. Makes my stomach turn just thinking about it.

My first time drinking kava was N@H's Solomon Islands kava. With their mixture, that first experience was one of the most notable experiences I have had with kava to date. Their instructions use a LOT of kava, but it is a bit wasteful.

It took me about a month of starting out with 6-8 tbsp (4-5 days/week) to eventually go down to 4-5. Trying to work it up again now.

Time for me to add my account!

About two weeks, drinking maybe ten times. Each time about a tablespoon of instant (1st kava king, then BKH). Broke through with my first cup of traditionally prepared root.

I have never gone through any kind of reverse tolerance. I remember my first time taking kava pills in the 90s and those sure worked. Best episode of "The X-Files" I ever watched. Then a decade later when I started working in a health food store that stocked Kava, remembered it, and it worked right away.

Is there any medical basis to this idea of a reverse tolerance? I am no doctor, but the whole thing messes with my mind.

But the many, very real, people on this board have all gone through it.

There is no medical explanation, just something a lot of us have gone through. Could be from starting out with bunk, shitty kava. Took me a while to learn how to prepare kava correctly too.

It's the same with prescription SSRI's, sometimes they don't work until you take them for awhile. It's all about your brain accepting the chemical quicker and easier by creating more "locks" for the key to fit into.

I agree that it's probably something that just needs to build up in your system. I take St. John's Wort and it's about a 3 week ordeal to get it to work after stopping for a time. I tried to explain the phenomenon of "reverse tolerance" to someone and she flat out said it was bullshit. lol It got me to thinking that maybe putting it that way isn't so accurate. If I had said it needs to build up she'd probably have understood.

Hmmm. I wonder if reverse tolerance isn't a more apt term. It's not just that it takes time to become effective as it builds up, but the effective dose becomes smaller and smaller
