Shells may be on etsy soon..

Due to everyone enjoying the pic of my carved shell, I may end up going to the store today and buying all of their coconuts to make shells and I might start selling them on etsy. Please not that I am not trying to make a quick buck on the forum here, I simply like to spread the joy of kava in every way I can. I do however need some tips that way I will be offering the best product I possibly can. First, what sizes should I sell the shells? I was thinking maybe 2oz 4oz and 6oz? Any more? And as far as designs go, would you guys like just random designed, as in you never really know what design you will get, or should I offer each size in maybe two different designs? It seems a lot of you who saw my shell like the random shapes design with the flower on the bottom. Also does anyone have any experience with etsy? Because I don't, do you recommend a different way to sell these or do you think that would be good? An as far as price, I will offer them as low as I can, I have to add in the cost of the coconut and shipping and what have you. And again, please don't think I am trying to make a profit off of the forum because that is not my intention at all, I just know that you guys of all people would appreciate these :)

Think you could carve a shell like my kava mug?

I have decided to do a test run with 4 shells, two will be 4 oz and the other two will be 8 oz. they will have the same design as my personal shell. I will try to get these online within two weeks or so :)

I will buy one that looks like yours:) I thought it was wonderful. 4oz please I drink very small shells. I think Kava is weight related. Will be looking on etsy:)

I think 8 oz is perfect. There seems to be a certain amount of dispute about what constitutes a shell. I got my shell from bula and the thing is awesome but friggin huge. It no joke holds 28+ ozs of fluid. I usually fill about 2/3 full and just take big gulps a few minutes apart that I would guestimate to e 4-6 ozs which is the average recommended shell. Perhaps having a smaller shell would entice me to take actual chugs and add a little more structure to my kava consumption instead of periodic chugs until I become debilitated.

Ok guys right now there are 2 four oz shells up on etsy right now. The pic quality isn't the best so I apologize in advance. Etsy.com/shop/Kavacrafts

The 8oz shells will be up probably on weds. The price right now is 16.00 plus shipping. I hope that isn't too steep. Also this is just a trial run to see if these will sell, so if all four shells get sold then I will make more :)

Price went down to 11 plus shipping. I realized 16 was crazy and I wouldn't have been able to sleep at night knowing I charged 16

Ok, now I'm more serious about that super K design. The company I had making the mug said it was a "Trademark Infringement". Pshhhh, whatever that is. Ok, ok, I understand but seriously I'd love to have something like that carved in some sort of kava drinking apparatus. Also, where are you shipping from?

I am shipping from CA. Right now I am only able to ship in the US. And perhaps I can create something like that k design, I'll have to play around with it

Well ello there fellow Californian.
I like the patterns so far. I think some kind of tortoise shell pattern would look pretty good. When you're not using it you can put it face down and it'll look like a turtle shell laying their, ha!

Don't underestimate the value of custom made products

this is true, I still feel however that 11 is a more fair price to any buyers.

I think the turtle shell idea is super cool. I was actually thinking of taking an actual turtle shell and trying to convert it into a kava shell (I have a couple on my porch), but they have their spine bones all in the shell, and they're all jointed, not really one big piece of bone, so it would need to be reshaped and glazed or something to work.... turning a coconut into a turtle shell seems much easier.

I will start thinking up some turtle like designs. And turtle shell can be difficult to work with sometimes. I made a tortoise shell mandolin bridge and a tortoise shell guitar pick once because of the amazing tone it produces.
