first off, thank you @Judd Rench for this kava and for the coupon offer for this review. i feel like this goes without saying but i want to make it clear that i have been singing the praises of this kava since i first tried it and this review has not been influenced in any way by the coupon offer (except of course by providing the motivation to finally write the review in the first place).
i really really really dig this kava. it comes on in waves of alternating heady and heavy effects; amazing mood lift, great pain relief, goofy smiles and zero anxiety.
i first tried it at Bula Kava House after a very long car ride and it instantly relaxed my stiff back and put my "Portland Driving Anxiety" to bed for the day. a strong batch of this kava can put me out like a light if i don't space my "shells" properly. i prefer, if i'm drinking this in the daylight hours, to mix the Solomons with a heady peppy variety like the white waka or the fiji loa waka or the hanakapi ai to counteract some of the dreamy relaxation that can occur with drinking it straight because it can really put a damper on my motivation.
effects seem to hang on for a good 3 hours after my last shell making this a very good bang-for-the-buck kava.
my only complaint about the Solomons is that it is ground down to a near-micronized level that can lead to excessive dryness compared to rougher grinds.
this is one of my favorite kavas and it mixes well with just about anything i've thrown at it; it rounds out any edginess that some of the headier varieties have and brings a mood lift to some of the heavier ones
also, i wanted to add; i would have given this a 5 for potency and headiness if i hadn't tried the nambawan a few days ago. that said, the Solomons probably deserves a 4.5 for both
