Taking instant on a plane?

I'm going to be taking a little trip to South Carolina in a couple of weeks and I was curious if I could take a tin of instant green on the plane, or do you think TSA would take it from me? And should I put it in my carry on or just in the regular luggage. However, I might only have a carry on because it's only a couple days.

I've only taken kava candies on a plane, but I had no issues carrying and checking those. Instant kava I'm not so sure, but I would say it's safer to check than carry. If you do carry it on I would allow enough time to go through some hassle waiting for them to find out if it's okay or not. Of course it might just go right through the scanner too with no issues. I smuggled a giant burrito in unintentionally once, that should have been a no-no.

How did they not see that in the scanner? Lol. Well if I can get it in on my carry on then I will be drinking kava the entire duration of the flight lol. I had considered just taking a bunch of gel caps and filling them with instant and filling a supplement bottle with them, but who knows; all I know is I would rather not go on this trip without some kava readily available to me.

I think you'd be safer to pack it in your checked luggage. If I remember correctly, Bula's tins don't seal up in a permanent sort of way and I'd be concerned with taking some numbing "mystery" powder that could potentially spill in my carry-on. The idea of filling caps with instant is a good one, though, and if you don't have any checked baggage, I'd either do that or buy an instant that comes factory sealed and not open it until you get to your destination.

i've taken the shaman and bkh tins in carry-on on the plane. i figured its not illegal, if they ask its only a herb. the shaman one does have more info on the label though so it might be easier to explain

It's funny this thread started today as I have a flight coming up on Wednesday and was wondering the same thing, not about instant but about actual dried ground root. I don't have anxiety about flying, thank God, so I'm not worried about access to kava during the flight itself.



I never check baggage anymore due to the hassle, but I might in this case. I plan on leaving my Boroguru in the original package. We will see if TSA hassles me or not... I doubt it, considering they are now allowing pocket knives on flights again, which seems strange to me as the 9/11 hijackers used pocket box-cutters... Idiot Federal agencies...

And thankfully I don't have anxiety about flying either, I'm just under the legal age to order some handy dandy alcohol to make the flight a lot less boring; so having some instant kava would be a nice way to pass 5 hours or so. I got 100g of instant green coming in the post specifically for this 2-3 day trip, so we'll see if I end up remembering the trip or not but there's no way I could go through that much instant in 2-3 days lol

I think what I'm going to do us fill up some gelcaps with instant and put a bottle of them in with my shaving kit and a bottle of aspirin or something and then also take the tin of instant with me just to see. And if they take it, at least I'll still have the stuff in the gel caps

What you should do, is pack your kava into flat bricks about foot tall and half and inch thick, make maybe a dozen of those, then take some wide tan tape and tape them around your abdomen. It will all work out great!

that sounds like a pretty good idea.. I think I'll do that; and I may as well take a brick of hash while I'm at it. If they say anything about it I'll just tell them I have glaucoma

it was in my carry on, a bag of instant and i had a tin of shaman and i think bkh green too but dont remember.

just keep in mind its 100% legal, its just an herb, not a drug. but if it makes u feel better make sure its labeled.

i had it in a bag with like 15 other vitamin and herb bottles.


hopefully it wouldnt be an issue with u too after i said all that lol

Great! That puts my mind at ease lol. And yeah I know there is no legal right for them to take it since its 100% legal. But there's no legal right for them to put me in a machine so they can look at my junk lol. And yeah tht would suck if I went all confident that it wasn't gonna be taken and then bam! The bag showed up unmolested at the destination baggage claim. No throngs of agents waiting for me after I de-boarded the plane. I was kind of hoping for this...


Now that I am in my hotel room, its time to mix up a batch! Ice bucket as a kava bowl? Yes indeed.

I'm actually really suprised they didn't at least open it up to see what it is lol, for all they know it could have been a kilo of cocaine! I could just see the guys operating the X-ray machine, "hey, what's that? "I dunno... Could be some drugs." well, should we do something? "nah, let's go to lunch" alright."
