Benzodiazepines as a harmless alternative should really torpedo any credibility. It should be considered medical malpractice when anxiety patients end up taking benzodiazepines daily IMO.

Unfortunately there is a population where Benzo treatment is neither a right or wrong decision. Many acute anxiety patients need them just to get by each day, and for those people the benefit from them exceed the major pitfalls, especially when there are no other options to choose from.
