What's new

the Kava for Interviews?

It has to be light enough that I can stay sharp and not appear intoxicated, but strong enough to keep the wave of panic under control and to also inspire sociability.
Someone had already mentioned KBR's Tongan Pride.  Anything else?
Kavalactones like kavain and other 'heady' ones simply wont due, as I usually come across as 'stoned' to other people i.e. spaced out, quiet, etc...

Be careful with the diuretic effect.

Only use kavas you are very familiar with - you don't want to suddenly break through a previously-unknown reverse-tolerance during your interview.

I agree Ozia candies are probably a good candidate for sociability, though for me they still don't touch stress. In the past I've used N@H Fire Island instant (pre-mixed in a bottle of green tea) for stress and sociability. Also, pills, which I know are not as cool but if need be are very easy to explain ("they're a dietary supplement I get at Whole Foods"); for me 8 pills of Natural Balance or Vitality Works help with stress and sociability.

Timing is important. Generally I take Fire Island in the morning for stress, and if I were taking kava again during an interview day I'd wait til the "social" part of the interview - if they take me out to lunch, for example. Though of course everyone's stress management is different.

I third the kava candy. That's my stress killer. I bring them on flights when I know I'm going to be stressed out.

I actually went to Chicago last week and the flight back was delayed 5.5 hours. I developed a bad stress headache by the time I finally got on the plane. Popped a kava candy and it went away. It came back after the kava candy wore off. That's my secret weapon against stress... which reminds me, I need to buy more.

Melo Melo from BKH would probably also fit the bill. Not my favorite kava, but definitely a mild and pleasant effect that could work well for an interview.

I've used to candies for a couple of interviews and they worked quite well. I had to take 4 of them to get the required effects though. I like the candies but just one or two alone doesn't seem to do much for me :)

I concur with Ed on BKH's melo melo too. It's not my favourite kava either, but if I wanted something really mild to just calm me a little, it does the job.

Well, seeing as I've been wanting to try the candies anyways, this'll be the perfect opportunity to do so. Thanks guys!
