Vintage Fijian Tanoa Kava Bowl

Purchased a small vintage Fijian Tanoa Kava bowl for our groomsman that does not drink alcohol but drinks Kava. We want him to feel included on our special day. The bowl is perfect however I do notice some small staining on the inside of the bowl, probably from past use. Would it be ok to lightly sand it away or more appropriate to just leave it as is? I was also going to try the food grade cutting board wax I saw on here earlier as the bowl looks to be raw wood and the wax may give it a nice shine and conditioner prior to gifting. Thank you in advance for any advice!

Nice gesture and gift. Sanding or leaving patina up to you, if it’s vintage the patina might be appreciated imho (and show up eventually if used). There are other threads that discuss wood care. I wood assume it will be valued and enjoyed either way.
