Need something different from the ole Wakacon waka. I generally like heady kava that is decent during the day but still with potent anxiolytic effects. Being that wakacon waka is my favorite, i'm sure y'all can guess what my effects preference is.

It depends on what you are looking for in terms of effects.

1. If you are after a very "heady" kava, Mo'i is fantastic.
2. If you prefer a "heavier", more sedating kava, Nene and Opihikao are the best.
3. If you want something strong, but balanced (both types of effects), you should go for Mahakea

If you want a potent but singularly heady experience, Mo'i is the one.
If you want the best of both worlds, Mahakea.

I find Mahakea good, because if I'm drinking Mo'i, I can VERY easily overdo it, due to the fact that there's little to no body effects. Meaning there's no signal for when I've gone way off the deep end. So if you guage your consumption by how your body is feeling, in any way, I'd go with Mahakea. However, you could also blend Mo'i with something else. I'm having Mo'i/ Melomelo blend right now, since I have a big bag of Mo'i to get through. (I want to buy more micro mahakea. I could probably live on it. But I promised myself I'd consume my melomelo/ mo'i in full, before I ordered more. :( Fresh kava is better, so it isn't prudent to have three or four pounds of it sitting around.)

I liked nene instant - I was completely wired on that and have heard a few others mention that effect as well. It bestows that sort of trippy , wired buzz that one gets after fighting off the effects of a sleeping pill. Maybe you should do an instant sampler pack and decide which one you truly fancy.

I absolutely love the balanced effects of mahakea, but it certainly encourages me to be done with my chores, if I drink enough of it.

If I drink mo'i and try to sit still, I feel the edge/energy. I have to be moving around with mo'i. Mo'i for the last couple hours at work is fantastic, or on a Saturday when doing chores around the house. Personally, I could not drink it before bedtime. Everyone is different, but I would need several hours to wind down off of mo'i before attempting to sleep.

Finally, I feel the hanakapi'ai sits perfectly in between the effects of mo'i and mahakea. It's quite uplifting, and whatever the kavalactone profile is, it rounds the edges off of the kavain while not turning me into a sloth, unless I push it a little harder.
Whatever you choose, make sure you continue to pick away at all of his varieties. Chris has raised the bar in the kava industry.

I want to add a shout-out for Nene. It's not heady, but the mind/body calm that it brings on is unparalleled so far in the kava universe (for me.) If what you're after is a soothing and warm slide into bed over three or four hours, with great awareness of you immediate surroundings then Nene is just the thing.

I keep a bag of Nene at all times. It's not my go-to variety for weeknight drinking, on most days. But on days where I had a particularly hard or stressful day or need to get into a better mental space for sleep and turn off the anxious tangential thinking that I sometimes get when I lie in bed, it's fantastic.

OK I'm new to this....which type of Hawaiian Gourmet Kava might provide something like the euphoric feeling of well being, like you get with a pain pill? Most people I know say pain pills put them to sleep, but just one gives me energy and a heightened sense of optimism/well being. You know. Hydrocodone type pill.

as a former junky i can safely say that no kava i have ever tried comes close to an opiate/oid type experience.
that said, you might have good luck with "shakas' makas" brand tudei
::awesomesmiles::
seriously though, i like hanakapi ai for the "energy and heightened sense of optimism/well being" spectrum of effects

I agree with tomkrat but can say that if you get just the right dose of something like hanakapi and then eat a nice meal, sitting and watching TV right now I'm feeling that feeling haha. Just cozy warm and euphoric . I think it's a mix of endorphins from food and kava when it clicks just right cause I don't allways get this .

I gotta go with Moi. I love that heady, hand tingling, giggly, eye laggy feeling when it's my day off and I can chug a few tbps in the morning :joyful:

I just ordered some instant nene for a nightcap. I like drinking kavas with a bit of energy to them and nene is the perfect way to round it out and makes for the funfun sleepytimes
