I can add some anecdotal evidence to that. When I was drinking non-noble kavas I would have sties in my eyes continually. I can definitely say it interferes with the sebaceous glands. My eye doctor even told me straight up that my sebaceous glands around my eyes were producing very little to any oil. After switching to noble kava and going from contacts to glasses I no longer have this problem.

It's not clear if they are saying that destruction of sebaceous glands is typical of dermopathy, of if the two cases cited were unusual. Also not clear if the "destruction" was reversible. It's well known that stopping kava consumption reverses dermopathy.

The two patients were taking some kind of extract product, likely not noble. I'd like to see more clinical findings on people drinking traditionally prepared root, and with n larger than 2.
