My father's family were copra (coconut) people, so I believe this was the first kava he'd ever grown.
Pic shows my folks, my sister, and the boys from next door. I was just a wee babe when this was taken.

Are those bundles comprised of several plants worth of root?
I haven't asked him (and I don't think he'd remember), but I would think so. My guess is he harvested a few plants, then picked out a couple of the longest unbroken roots from them to bundle up. It's a pain in the arse digging out long kava roots without breaking them.
