That unique taste when kava has gone bad.

I think there actually is a specific indicator of when your kava is gone bad.
If you're willing to taste it to find out.
This has happened multiple times, so I think I'm onto something.
My kava will have a lemony taste to it, when it apparently has gone bad.
But no, not that lovely lemon taste, but the taste of a lemon that has gone bad.
Has anyone ever come across this taste and do you agree on the connection ?

Never gone that bad. I do know that as it progresses the starches turn to sugar and so the grog gets sweeter and sweeter, and then once it crosses over it's not sweet any more, just nasty, dag nasty. So it's not a subtle transition, it goes from sweet to awful almost instantly at the end game. Or is my experience different from others? I try to make sure to drink all grog within 3 days at most, ideally one day, or just freeze it.

Yea it's pretty bad. I could taste it, even when it was masked by huge amounts of cocoa powder and stevia. That was enough to mask just about anything.
So imagine how bad it would have been without that.
That extra flavor was a blessing, because without that flavor protection, I probably would have puked from the pure nastiness.
