Can kava root powder get too old? (Not for drinking)

Hey all
Since I have had some allergic reactions to kava, my dermatologist wants me to bring in a sample of kava, so he can attach it to my skin (for 3 days) in order to see if there will be a local reaction.

I only have a stash of kava left that's about 8 months old. Do you guys think it is too old then for the tests? Remember, it is not for drinking.

Oh wow. This could possibly be one of the first real documented cases of a kava allergy if it shows you're alergic (Here at KF, possibly wider than that) That's interesting @nhoeg

8 month old kava shouldn't cause any problems. In another thread I had talked about consuming kava from 2014 and it worked.

Attach it to your skin for three days? I predict there will be some contact dermatitis, regardless of whether you are allergic to it or not. It's not the dumbest idea I have ever heard. But I am not a doctor, I'm just some guy on the internet, so what do I know.
And, no, it's not too old for the tests (or for drinking).

This is true, when I kneaded kava on a daily basis with no gloves, my hands looked pretty awful.

however, i'd be interested to hear what he has to say about kava'd skin, particularly if he puts some under a microscope.

Were the potency/effects the same? How was it stored?

Potency was the same. Stored in GHK gold ziplock bag in the dark under my counter in the kitchen.

Yeah I agree with the contact dermo. Or just weird discoloration. Especially if you sweat or something. You are gonna smell like a kava bar on a hot day. Not that it's bad necessarily.

LOL yes the moisture from your body mixing with the kava could get pretty funky smelling after 3 days...

you know when he said "attach" i assumed there was some sort of scientific, dermatological way of doing it, but now that i think about it are they just gonna tape some kava onto your skin?

I mean, I'm not a doctor, but when they test for allergies, don't they just prick your skin a bunch of times with various potential allergens, and then see if there is an immediate reaction? Three days doesn't make sense. Maybe you should see a doctor who specialized in allergies. Dermatologists might just enjoy attaching things to people's skin...

Attach it to your skin for three days? I predict there will be some contact dermatitis, regardless of whether you are allergic to it or not. It's not the dumbest idea I have ever heard. But I am not a doctor, I'm just some guy on the internet, so what do I know.

So I was to the dermatologist today, and what he did was to make a certain skin test, where he attaches different substances under small plasters (band aids) to the skin on my back (and these are not regular band aids - these are pretty much glued to my skin). The idea is that they easily can determine from the colour of my skin if there is a reaction to certain substances. I don't know the word for it in english, but in Danish it's called "priktest". My back kinda looks like this now:

Tomorrow I have to take them off my back and take pictures so that the doctors can examine them. In addition to the regular substances they use in these tests, he attached a small amount of LIQUID medium grind kava and LIQUID mirconized kava under two different plasters (yes, I actually showed him how to brew a batch). He said he wasn't expecting great results from it, but he would try it though. Furthermore he took a sample of my different kavas to test in the lab. He said he would do a "histamine release test" on it together with my blood. Sounds interesting....

The English word for priktest is "prick test" (literally, because the skin is pricked with a needle)
The English word for bag is "testicle".
