I can answer part of this question, kava is a subtle plant or root, it's not the same as drinking alcohol but depending on the strain you are drinking, it can have similar effects. It is not like drinking a six pack but then again the side effects the following day are far better, if not non-existent. When I started drinking kava last year, I didn't think I was going to stop drinking alcohol, I begun my kava journey due to pretty severe anxiety and at the time I was coming off of Benzo's. Eventually I decided alcohol was doing more harm then good for me and I quit that too, had a slip here or there, but as today haven't had any in several months.

It can work, but I think it is important to understand that kava is a subtle feeling and patience with it is key in the beginning.
