Kava Preparation Official Kava strain mix thread

Just thought I'd make a thread about people's favorite mixes, it's easier to search this way. I'm hoping we can get people to try new mixes and come to some sort of consensus in this uncharted territory. Please share the ratio of mix as well :)

I'm relatively new to Kava so I have not been mixing but am eager to try. I just have a belief that one strain may totally overpower another thus leaving the experience kind of flat.

Cool idea. It seems like the master mixer is @Krunkie McKrunkface :LOL:

I've only blended a couple roots.
-50/50 Moi and Hanakapi'ai was outstanding, longest krunk I ever had (9-10 hours)
-50/50 Loa Waka and Vula Waka. Compliment each other nicely, although not drastically different than each on their own.

I definitely have an issue with one kava normally overpowering the other. If I mix a heady kava with a heavy kava, it normally just feels like I drank a heavy kava.

By far, nene is my favorite mixer. It can really balance out headier kavas without overpowering them. My favorite mix so far is nene and moi. However, ive also really been liking honokane iki as a mixer. Its one of the most anxiolytic kava's that I've had.

I'm sure moi and hanakapiai would also be a great combination, but hanakapiai gives me an allergic reaction :(

Ive been enjoying kava supreme lately, so I'll let you know how it works as a mixer when Ive had some more time to experiment

I've read that it can happen with certain strains for certain people. I actually loved the strain, but I definitely think it was a very mild allergic reaction that I was having, so now I avoid it. Never had the problem with any others.

I like to break everything down analytically, dunno why.

So I always like to be clear on why I am blending and then evaluate the different strains according to the specific criteria, to always be fair to the root and not cheat myself out of anything.

There's a bunch of good reasons for blending but I cannot imagine they might all apply at the same time, only some reasons, or one, but those are the criteria for evaluation.

To experience something new or synergistic not otherwise achievable

to save money, using hamburger helper kava or TVP kava

to make an otherwise undrinkable kava drinkable because of flavour and/or strength

to balance out something that would otherwise be more heady or heavy than you want or could handle but you still want to enjoy what that strain has to offer

for health reasons: e.g. only Fijian kava is found likely to fight cancer but other kavas are excellent to drink. So you could get the best of both worlds.

to maximize kavalactones, both different types and also amounts of each

spirit of adventure

One of the most practical blends I know is Mood & Mind vanuatu root with Wakacon Fijian Lawena 2:1 for general daily drinking with an emphasis on pain relief and anti-anxiety. It works, tastes fine, very healthy, nicely mellow, safe, and about the cheapest grog you can get right now. Another good cheap blend is Wakacon Fijian Waka 3:1 with their lawena.

Squanch waka and lawena 1:1 is just pure fun, every bit as much fun as TFR, IMO. Equally fun are Squanch 1:1 with TFR and Squanch 1:1 with kula. TFR is fantastic, but those blends are also as fantastic, IMO. And just darn pleasurable, when it's fun for fun's sake.

Phun Blend 1 (lol Aka my ERMG this stuff ROCKS)
Putting this here since Deleted User01 said their's a blend thread.
Found this totally by acident. For me, so far, hitting the mark
Eua , Honokane Iki, Lowa Lewena. Had all three on hand. For me it's a a pleasent body warming goofy making blend. I used 2sp each I think. Experiment and have fun.

Phun Blend 2
A bit of 11 year waka. (no idea how much it was the last small amount in a bag I got 3 weeks ago)
Honokane Iki 1/2TBS
1 tsp Hanakapi Ai
(Tried that about 5-10 minuts) ago so far also a nice body warming, relaxing and everything is funny mix. Good for rifftrax or a comedy show.


Might work with just the Iki and 11yearWaka if you want to avoid a yen to find a sofa to nap.

Monday Gigles, Fun and motivation mix
I have these on hand but really hitting the spot for me:
1-2tsp Eua
1-2tsp Lawna (Cactus kava's if that makes a difference)
Chilled espress add 1 goofy gork er wait that's not right :p
I have no idea what size my Espresso cups are. (it's what I used the first time)
I think I preffered a bit more in my "nerds rule" cup wich is 8-9ounces big. A nice pleasent grounded life is good! And just a over all really upbeat, happy go lucky place.
Had it a just before getting the day going. Really hitting the spot. Seem to have a real TazzDinga! (I think that's good) winner. I wonder if sof that's the Eua wich is awsome on it's own..
