Airplane anxiety?

Hi all,
I'm new here and have been thinking about trying kava for anxiety and sleeplessness, mostly that I get in the evenings. A little background - I'm in my 30s, work full time, have a young child, and am a cancer survivor. I've been on and off Ativan for the past 6 years. (I know.) And I have chronic pain, and insomnia. (I was on Ambien for a few years - off now). I don't like drinking alcohol and unfortunately marijuana is illegal where I live. So, here i am.

Anyway, cutting to the chase - with being a mom and work and all my other obligations I don't know if I have time to prepare the tea in the evenings. Would a capsule work OK? It would need to be a reputable brand, of course. And what's a good mg dose to start on? Does the kalvactones matter when picking out a capsule? or would you not recommend it at all? I also have airplane anxiety and was wondering if anyone has used kava (can't make the tea, but capsule?) before going on an airplane? it would be the only time I would take it that wasn't at night. Thanks for your help! I tried to read up before posting.

Prep time for grog with an AluBall is about one minute. I can make a half gallon of grog in under 10 minutes using my AluBall setup. Time really isn't the issue.

Yes, plenty of people use kava before a flight to reduce anxiety. That can work and does work for many.

The point of taking kava for anxiolytic effect, though, is not so much to avoid a specific incident as it is to provoke a systemic reaction which reduces anxiety overall. i.e. if you are having an anxiolytic grog in the evening, it should be effective all the next day, for anxiolytic purposes at least, while you are not drinking grog, possibly even for days. For some people this can take a while of regular kava consumption to build up to that state. My wife started reducing her anxiety with daily kava drinking after 2 months but she didn't really wipe out the anxiety till about the 6 or 7 month point. Of course, kava affects different people differently, so your experience could go much quicker. Then again, it might not. It's impossible to say in advance.

You sound much like me - mom, working, on and off ambien and Ativan. I started out trying a capsule because I was looking for something to help especially with anxiety. I had to take something like 6 times the listed dose to get any effect and that made them very expensive. I would skip it.

I began traditional prep maybe a couple of months ago and I struggled with traditional prep, especially time. Enter the aluball. I really recommend trying that over supplements. You also could try some of the instant or micronized.

It has helped a great deal with my anxiety, and I noticed the effect within a couple of weeks or so. Really recommend it. The only bad part is the taste- I have to hold my breath and use a chaser. Good luck!
