Hello all
Haven't been on in a bit.

Anyways, I've been waiting over 2-3yrs for Ofas to restock and it never happened, nor a reply.
what happened? I guess they/he won't be coming back at this point I suspect :'(

I usually like to buy in bulk 6-10kg at a time 1-3x/yr to save money when able to get bulk deal on good kava.

For this I've been using Ofa's kava (he'd adjust the price for me once all in cart) and Lami/ekava mainly for years (and 1-2kg here and there of others as a treat, like KwK special reserve Santo laterals omg nice hahaha)

I miss having a Tongan in rotation :'( any recommendations for buying in bulk??
Honestly open to other types/regions aswell though

Looking at/for around $70usd/kg , but in bulk order size ofcourse 6-10kg at a time, more even if must. (Known wonderful shops here feel free to reach out aswell )
*I'm in Canada btw*

I drink alot of kava and can't afford to buy by the lb or kg (50-150g/day ) looking for bulk discount option (and decent/good-strong kava ofcourse )

Thank you for your time and any input!!

You can probably email almost any vendor and request a deal on bulk, I know KWK has 5lbs deal but I am sure you could request a larger amount.

Sorry delay, it's been hectic. :) .

My only concern is they label it at a supplement, when here (Canada) it's a food product . Supplements you're only allowed to buy 3mo at a time (stupid I know.. hopefully that changes soon) , so sometimes customs may just look at it as supplement and limit to 3 bags. I haven't had issues luckily when I've gotten 4 + etc bags, but apparently some have. At worst it'd probably just get sent back tho and maybe worth a try for 6-8kg sometime. (Especially if they got that Santo laterals in! Love that one haha) .
Maybe I'll ask if they could just put it in unlabeled as supplement bag or something, just say "kava root" or something

TLDR : lol
Thank you!

You have to love Canada's common sense in labeling it as a food, I wish the US would catch up already.

Here is an idea, ask the vendor to add a custom label for you that lists kava as a food, maybe if you are going to be a regular, they may try to accommodate, IDK, just a thought. I can't speak for any vendors but it doesn't hurt to ask for a bulk deal to CA (with some consideration for customs :))

Whatever amount of bags you can get in, make sure every last one is a kilo (or maybe they can cram 1.5 kilos per bag for you and call it a kilo in label)

The US has caught up, but the Vendors haven't. The FDA clearly states:
"kava can also be used to brew tea, for example, as described in the recently
adopted Codex Alimentarius Regional Standard for Kava Products for Use as a Beverage When Mixed
with Water, in which case different food requirements would apply."
(We forgive them for the "brew tea" comparison but you get the point).

I am not sure what the hold up, well I sort of do. Certain standards should be observed in the sterilization and processing of the kava, before it gets to the consumer. More extensive than the current standards. It's a larger problem of those larger co's that import and then sell to the smaller vendors. The solution is to buy the kava in root chips and have it sterilized state side. It requires vendors to invest a certain amount of money, which if they are serious about selling kava should not be an issue. I suspect not all will do this.

I want to make sure I understand what you are saying- do you mean it is less expensive to label dried ground Noble kava as "Dietary Supplement" and more expensive to have a Food label?

Not at all.

I am saying testing and sterilization need to be better than it currently is.

How is it sterilized? Comparable to our legal medical cannabis, a lot of them have been treated with certain methods, one of them radiation.
When I still medicated a bit with cannabis I always looked for non treated cannabis. Certain methods that are used with cannabis are very sure to have a bad long term effect in some way.

I am curious how they treat kava...

This is interesting as it seems "testing and sterilization need to be better than it currently is"... is the actual technology not at a point where imported kava can have a food label?I think I am not understanding this part- "Certain standards should be observed in the sterilization and processing of the kava, before it gets to the consumer. More extensive than the current standards."
I have to wonder-- if Ceylon/ Sri Lanka dried tea can be labeled a food product, why not kava.
