Hello ya'll. I'm brand new to this forum and have experienced kava for about 2 months. I order botanicals through shire naturals. Does anyone have an opinion or insight on there kava? It is Tongan. Thanks

Page is gone, but did a kava search. The described powder says Tongan, but say it has a cinnamon like flavor and goes good with vanilla or pineapple juice. From my limited experience, kava don't have a cinnamon like flavor and I am not sure what goes good with mud flavored water. Me personally, I would suspect contamination. For the price I wouldn't risk it. There are some good vendors that sell noble cultivars on the boards here. From my experience Hawaiian kavas taste better. That's not saying much... I have not tried any Tongan kavas yet.

Looks at @shakas is this one of mystery wakas you have tried. I just read a post by you that noted some odd smells/flavors in it.

Here is a better link. The company changed names but I still go through the old site.

Got it, still can't get over the taste good comment in the comments. Powdered kava just don't do that ;) now you can work with it and some vendors have found away around it (Kalm with kava drink, and kava candies).

From my personal purchases I can say they have quality products at a very fair price. But I have only recently learned about kava. I have purchased their kava, but I'm not sure what characteristics I'm looking for in a quality kava. It tastes like mud and curry in my opinion

Look at the post "first time kava drinkers beware" by Deleted User. It's locked above this post. That should be helpful and mud and curry would sound about right. There is a test called the acetone test that can help determine if your kava is mixed with/or is tudei (two day) kavas. I have not done this test yet as I buy from certified vendors. Tudei kavas may be linked to the bad press a few years back. "Noble" kavas seem to be safer. Watch for extracts, so far it seems the safest extract are water and co2 extraction methods using noble kavas. The kavapedia in the top forum bar is also a helpful resource.
