Certified Organic Kava From Fiji

In this thread, @PinkFloydEffect related a bad experience he had with a product sold as kava from Fiji. Testing by @Deleted User revealed it to be not-kava, but this post is going to focus on another claim made by the vendor of that not-kava: that it was certified USDA Organic.

There are a couple of USDA Organic certified farmers in Fiji, but none of their certifications cover Kava. Any claims by a vendor that they have Fiji kava that is certified organic should be treated with suspicion. To verify, check at http://apps.ams.usda.gov/nop/
A vendor who makes this claim is either lying and purposely misrepresenting their product, or has been themselves duped by their supplier. Either way, their product cannot be trusted and should be avoided.

They don't explicitly claim to be selling organic kava, but they do talk about kava in that article about their organic products.

They don't use the seals for USDA Organic and Australian Certified Organic on their kava product pages. Instead they use seals for GMO free and vegan certification: Compare:

Slightly disingenuous, yes, but not a total scam.
Their brand is only a year old, so they're probably buying kava from villagers on neighbouring islands. It'll probably be a while before their own kava is ready, if indeed they're growing it themselves.

It does show sheep, though!
LOL, but not deer! Deer were introduced to Wakaya in 1920 and still wander the island. I suppose the sheep are certified so they can offer their celebrity guests USDA certified lamb. The likes of Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Rupert Murdoch, George Lucas, and Tom Cruise have holidayed on Wakaya Island. Keith Richards had to be emergency evacuated to Australia after falling out of a coconut tree there, hah!

Having kava marketed and sold as an upscale brand with a man like David Gilmour (founder of Fiji Water) behind it can only be a good thing for kava in America IMO. BTW he founded Wakaya Perfection at the age of 83! We can only hope to have that much energy and be that hopeful in our old age.
