New but old kava drinker - Hi.

Well hi folks! Thought it was about time I joined a Kava group forum and get some idea of how you guys take your Kava,
and your understanding of its effects and subtleties.
In a coconut shell.......I've enjoyed ground Kava root for around 12 years now, about 2-3 times a week works fine for
me. (10oz a month on average)
It really has become an ingrained, personal and always welcome ceremony after all this time, It is such a kind and benign euphoric..My
son and I sometimes go into the deep forests and drink together, it brings all things closer, it calms the mind yet gives clarity.
Yep...the root to happiness....and thanks for your company.

Welcome kavakeiki. ::shell::
I'm a noob to the kava but I'm already starting to realise that the best way I enjoy it is when I'm out in nature. Was sitting in the back garden under an apple tree last week enjoying my after work shell and floating off into bliss. White fluffy clouds in the dusky sky and a lush green wooded valley laid out in front of me as the wood pigeons went about their goodnight cooing.
All of a sudden I heard a whoosh whoosh whoosh from above and behind and there was an arrow sharp, V-shaped wedge of Canada geese, only 15 or 20 metres above me, headed for the river or some pond somewhere. I mean, that's a sight to behold anytime, but in that frame of mind it was incredibly serene and emotional. ::tanoa::

Welcome @kavakeiki!

Wow. 12 years. I'm but a leaf on this tree. I've been at this about a year.

I'm at about 2 times a week now, after drinking nearly daily for 6 months.

When my kids are old enough, I look forward to drinking kava with them. They're both teenagers and sick of hearing me talk about it, but a time will come when we share shells and I look forward to that day.

I'd love to know more about how you've sourced your kava over the years, Kavakeiki. And how you found the different types. And where you got introduced to it. And how you prepare it. And all that. Whenever I meet someone with a wealth of kava experience and wisdom, I have so many questions!

Thanks guys for the welcome and comments!...tava..mrbinx69..Steve..kavadude
Steve, you're right, its very good for uniting and getting close to your kids..works for us.
I guess I kind of turned on to Kava alone, long time ago, although like many, at first I was a bit
dubious about the taste and was trying to understand the effect, I kept at it, accepted the taste with respect of the earth it grows in and for its noble history as a species.
More than this after some years a harmonization sets in, I can feel the effect of just one half, shell now. I always drink two to three shells, never more, simple room temp water and macerated twice. Mostly drink Fiji premiums, Vanuatu, and Hawaiian varieties and have sourced nearly exclusively for years from one importer in Hawaii (Kickback) I've tried so called stronger concentrates, instants, but seem to always go back to root grind...to be honest the effects, for me, are more balanced and strong enough with good quality grind.
Must say the few people I've introduced to Kava, misunderstand it, don't like the taste etc, etc well...we know it is an acquired taste, so more for lucky us!
Yep..Kava is the nicest and mellowest thing around, makes you peaceful and shuts off the noise of any stress.
How much do you guys feel you have to drink? Do you drink alone?
(For what its worth....I can report no ill effects whatsoever after twelve years of Kava, I'm fit and fine)
Well happy Kavaday....Rick (Atlantic Macaronesia)
(Reading on this forum and I can see right away I've got a lot to learn from you guys!)

"macerated twice".

So do you do the "real traditional prep from the unadulterated root?

Yes Ta-va..traditional method, I macerate well then always do a last wash in a separate vessel, when the liquid settles I drain off the watery top half and drink the Kava residue.

hi that sounds like a lovely way to enjoy kava,i personally was drinking kava one day in my garden when I heard two high pitch screatches from above me,i looked up to see a pigeon fly over + above it were two perigrin falcons.one chasing it and one coraling it .didant see the outcome but I can guess, what a wonderfull site watching two of natures finest flying hunting birds in action really inspired me.
