Do you guys go to Kava bars?

When I'm in Boca Raton in Florida I try to hit the Nak. Many other Kava Bars also serve the other k thing. I try to avoid those

Kava U.S. FDA Petition May 2023

This is such a great letter. I went over to Kavahana's site, made it my own and sent it. Bravo

    Anybody tried Tikarams?

I've had the Tongan once or twice. Probably their best tasting. It's ok, but with a side effect/desired effect balance that can be improved.

Arginine supplementation for non-topical treatment of kava dermopathy

Ha! Nitric oxide is not nitrous oxide, as much as I'd like to get loopy on beets..

    Kava dermopathy

Some have reported some help from diphenhydramine (Benadryl), which also sometimes has its own side effects and to which people react differently. If you poke around in here, you'll find some other stories of remedies/treatments used. Some people report help from coconut oil supplements - there...

    Kava dermopathy

Also speaking anecdotally, I've been able to identify certain brands/strains that tend to trigger dermo FOR ME more than others. I emphasize "for me" because results can be highly subjective and I don't wish to drag any specific brands. And there are others that would trigger it but they are so...

    Southern NY/CT/NJ area

I am Bills Mafia and happy to see the bills (the one "NY" team) brought up here. I am in the Northwest Bronx but very unlikely to be able to attend a meetup, as professional and personal obligations have booked me up for the foreseeable future.

    Recommendation for a tongan kava?

My favorite Tongan at the moment is @fijivanuakava Malo Tongan. Also, @Kavaloloko is good and potent, in my experience. Nice people as well, behind both kavas, in my experience.

    "Rooted"

Around 20 years ago, I spent some time in Australia (from where I ventured briefly to Fiji and had my first root, I mean kava) visiting a friend who was studying at the University of New South Wales. His name was Randy, and very politely like the Canadian he is, he would introduce himself to all...

    Kava and outdoor cooking

I really enjoy kava while grilling. Sometimes I put a little seltzer in and it's like a velvety stout. Well, sort of.

    Accept Kava skin?

We're all different. In recent months, I've had good luck with certain companies and I think it might be their overall quality control and focus on, among other things, peeling the root well. Examples of this are GHK, BKH (the Vanuatu grinds I have tried) and Fiji Vanua Kava. This is probably...

News Article Spikes Kava Bar in Gainesville

I noticed a tweet from former NFL and University of Florida football player Brandon Spikes about him opening a kava bar in Gainesville, FL this weekend. I dug for a minute and found this release. Apparently it is inside a CBD shop ::shrug2...

    Temporary Backyard Nakamal

Some followers of traditional Jewish practices construct these little huts in their yards for the biblical holiday of Sukkot, which in a way marks the fall harvest. Weather permitting, eating, drinking and chilling are customarily done in these things for about a week. The holiday just finished...

Kava allergy or overuse or just normal?

I've also had eye side effects that have included dark circles and also shriveled up looking eyelids and styes. Sometimes diphenhydramine (Benadryl) at night was helpful with all of that. As I moderated my consumption somewhat and found my favorite varieties (and kept rotating among them), I've...

    A question about dermo

I think that a factor in dermo - and this is hunch/anecdotal - is how the root is ground and how much peel makes it in. I think this affects some of the strong root that you have said you have been drinking. Some companies grind differently (see discourse on the "canoe method" and how it works...

    Finish one before start one

I usually have multiple bags open. I mix and match, often during a session or in the same batch. I also tend to read 6 - 8 books at once. I don't recommend that. Horribly inefficient.
