A New York Nakamal (Kava Bar)

I am surprised I have not seen one here. I am a native New Yorker and since discovering kava (or Kava discovering me) I have pondered why a nakamal is not in NYC or the outer boros.

Thoughts?

Wondered the same. There is a place called Kava something in the West Village, but unfortunately its just a hipster coffee spot.
You'd think the city that has everything, all the time, would have a nakamal! At least the kava presence is felt somewhat through the guys in Long Island City making the King Kava drink (posted about that in another thread).

Wall street is basically everything that's wrong this country and world. The whole practice of making money not earned by wages or fair trade is what's been the downfall of humanity. It has been what separates indentured servants from aristocrats for centuries. Wall street goes hand in hand with the federal reserve and world banking cartels that own our governments and politicians. It's either us or them when it comes down to it. Either the slaves try and forge out their lives lives and create a democracy that caters to the good of the people and not to the rich elite or we coddle our slave masters and continue down the path were on. If your really interested in helping humanities problems it does involve taking action on 1% of the population who control 99% of the wealth and controlling interest in every government on earth, but serving them kava is not the route I would would go.........

I agree with you on wall street. I'm a bit iffy on the 1% thing though just because it never worked out for Russia when the revolution happened. But it's all just a reoccurring cycle in my opinion that's going to continue to happen forever with all democracies and all countries

The Bolshevik revolution was actually a totally different thing. The main cornerstone principle of communism is a dominant central bank and the negation of private property. Basically the rich elite own everything and control everyone, not most of everything like today. The Rothschilds and Morgans was deeply involved in the Bolshevik revolution and likely were engineers and profiteers behind it all. All that really happened there was a brutal auto-genocide(people of the same race killed each other, similar to Cambodia or Uganda) where global elitist bankers manipulated a volatile public into killing around 30 million people and investing the wealth of everybody into their banks. Basically their doing it all over again. The people of major concern are the: Rothschilds, Bilderbergs, Goldman & Sachs, Morgan, Chase, Rockefeller, house of Windsor, the Vatican and most likely the Freemasons(Illuminati).

I have been disappointed and disgusted with this city and it's complete and total lack of kava and kava drinkers, and even the simple real knowledge about kava which seems to not exist here at all. I have been drinking for over 10 years and for all this time I have not found 1 'health food' store or herb store that carried real kava, and the only one's that do carry some god awful garbage that is completely awful, probably bulk ordered from some herb supply house out in Cali that gets some crap root from who knows where adulterated with ground coconut shell etc. ALL health food stores carry poisonous kava tinctures made with alcohol by herb pharma  & gaiia herbs etc, they almost all carry crappy ineffective (and for that reason probably dangerous) kava pills, and without a fault the 'professionals' they hire at health food stores are idiots who have no idea what kava really is and yet prescribe it and other herbs they know nothing about. The only people in NYC other than members of  my Reggae Band (Zion Judah) that have tried and are interested and that know anything at all about kava are the guys that produce this beverage King Kava (kingkava.com). Even they do not have a very deep knowledge of the history and use of kava. If I had any kind of money at all I would start a kava bar here or in NJ near the path train, but unfortunately it's all I can do to get my stash from Rex or Jon Yee or Nakamal at Home from FL or Judd from out in Portland OR...

NYC should be the herbs capital of the world, you should be able to buy kava and ganja in greenwich village at groovy tea houses and no-alcohol clubs etc etc etc but instead it's the shithead capital of the world. The price of other herbs we all know and love has gone through the roof and still regular people are getting busted by police in this town.  I think that the more kava drinkers we recruit the closer we will get to legalizing all big medicine for the people.(smiley: pimp)  baby.

it can get very irritating when you mention kava and absolutely NO ONE has heard of it. Or if they have they say something like "oh yeah wasn't that the stuff that was destroying people's liver?"

The is one oddball dungeons and dragons theme store which has huge tables decked with castle with moats and mini forests for weirdos and sex offenders(I suspect them of it anyway) to post up and play D&D; and magic cards all night long, in addition to that they also sell mugwort and shredded kava root. I went in the store once cause I lived in town and had heard about the nerdiness and had to see it for myself, I really laughed when I saw kava root for sale. The only other place I saw it was at a weird head shop that was also a gross porno and bondage shop, the had kava right next to the K2.

You seriously would have to be there to understand the sketchiness. I walked in around 7 at night and every table was packed with chubby dudes in horned rimmed glasses wearing tomb raider or some other video game shirt and they were playing with a bunch of socially awkward pre-teens and early teens and my pedosense just shot off the freaking scale.



Maybe I'm just a judgmental douchebag which just may be, but there was a really weird aura in that room. I've been going to festivals and raves for years and have never once felt an aura so suspect.

I read the thread about King Kava. Making kava taste good is a hurdle that all my friends who have tasted said we (kava enthusiasts) have in spreading its magic. I have made some tasty drinks with Red Jacket apple juice. I'm sure we all have some good recipes.

I am down to have a few bowls with the Kavasseurs of NYC. I have tried a few and my current go to is Nakamal's Stone. I'm open to trying new kavas.
