We really don't want kava lounges around, if it becomes to popular the government will ban/regulate it.... and thats bad.

Hi to all in this group! I know this conversation is kinda stale but I wanted to extend an invitation to this group for a Kava meetup at some point in the next month. The goal is to get a core group together who are willing to help in the formation of a kava pop-up to take place this summer in NYC. I currently live in Williamsburg after having lived on the Big Island of Hawaii for over 6 years. I am a regular kava drinker and have lived and worked on the largest kava farm in Hawaii. The goal of the kava popup is to have a regular gathering for NYC kava drinkers, to create an environment where we can educate others about kava and its significant place in Pacific island culture, and to eventually form a community around which a true kava bar can be built. A kava bar in NYC has long been a dream of mine, but I know better than to simply open a half-baked place and try to sling a bunch of roots without creating a knowledgeable community to support it. A kava bar is as much about the people who "belong to it" as it is about the kava.

I am looking to host an informal get together soon. I currently have about 2 lbs of fresh frozen root ready to be prepared, as well as a bunch of very good powdered kava. Please respond if you are interested and let's make something happen instead of just complaining that something we want doesn't exist.

Thanks,

John

John- Welcome to the Kava Lounge!

While I don't live in NYC for the purposes of your envisioned nakamal, it's great to add you to the list of industry experts on this forum. Glad to have you aboard.

I have been dreaming about a kava bar in NYC for years too. As a matter of fact I have been dreaming about just even being able to BUY real kava in NYC, or talk to ANY herb store or health food store worker or owner who knows anything at all about 'Awa anywhere in NYC. I am not sure what contact info I have on here but you can eMail me @ [email protected]
I've got a whole reggae band waiting to get things going.
