Any of you mix kava with other things, and if so what are your ultimate kava recipes?

Kava Curious
I've been on a kick mixing my kava with ice, cinnamon, vanilla soymilk and sweetener and I've been loving it. The cinnamon in particular seems to compliment it wonderfully. Anywho, I've never been to a kava bar but I suspect that they would have a few fun or tasty concoctions of their own and was hoping we could share any drink recipes or ideas we've come across or used ourselves!

  • Three tablespoons olive oil
  • One tablespoon lemon juice
  • One teaspoon minced garlic
  • One fourth teaspoon mustard seed
  • One fourth teaspoon turmeric
  • One teaspoon KBR Isa
  • Four to five twists of fresh ground pepper
(@Kapmcrunk, this is my salad dressing recipe).
Your Eminence! Thats amazing! I toyed with savory vs sweet for a while but never really jumped in. I did a mustard and chinese 5spice "drink" that really covered the taste of a vanuatu root but i didn't take it any further. Thanks for sharing, makes me wanna keep playing with it!

Bloody Kava - I mixed it with spicy v-8 and some horseradish, a dash of ground pepper and celery salt. Topped it off with lots of ice and a stalk of celery in a tall glass. Delish!

There's quite a few recipes floating around. I've done bloody kavas, kava mojitos, kava gingerades. It's all fun. I find it more filling usually.

I'm surprised to see the absence of potentiators (sp) like caffeine, lecithin, etc. It's fine and everything, just seems like there's an opportunity there, esp. if you're drinking it at work.

@Rookietwoshoes - but you make the kava first I guess, then add all that other stuff.
It takes me so long to make it, I'm thinking of just finding concentrate or maybe the pills, I don' tknow, then put it in a drink.

@Prince Philip - maybe you are joking....but would you really add the powder itself ...wont that upset stomach?
Also, I looked at that strain you mention - it says it's not for newbies because it's so strong, but I'm a newbie, as are all my friends, and we are not experiencing much of anything. It seems like with reverse tolerance, I should actually be starting me and my friends off with the strongest stuff.

@Bwiggy - I just mix the kava in the v8 juice instead of water. You can do that with instant and micronized . I suppose you can kneed the medium grind in whatever you choose if you don't wish to use water.

If you use something with Carbonation like Ginger Ale, then put 2 tablespoons of instant or micronized in about 2 inches of liquid and stir good. Then add ice and more ginger ale and your drink will still be relatively carbonated. Works for plain Club soda with lime. I imagine you can use any carbonated drink.

Going to try making some carbonated drinks! Need to order some micronized. Suggestions there?
Dark Chocolate kava has been my favorite so far.
I'm thinking a strong ginger beer might be nice, need to try.

@iglooNakamal, if you are looking for Noble Hawaiian Kava then try Mahakea or Moi from GHK. Those two are getting rave reviews right now. Mahakea is more balanced and Moi is headier. Also, the new Micronized are not only Macas free but they are ground finer which makes the drink less gritty. My favorite drink is 2 tablespoons of Micronized with ginger ale, lime and ice. When you make your drink, put a small amount of liquid in the glass and stir up the drink good. Then ice and then fresh carbonated liquid after that. You will need a spoon to stir lightly as you sip.

I'm not too worried about the grit. It doesn't get to me at all as long as i don't get any splinters. I'm taking a moment to read through the wiki now and catch up. I might want to get two batches. Something for the daytime, and something to help me sleep at night.
