Any way to make kava taste better?

I enjoy the occasional 'kava colada' as a respite from the typical shudder-inducing kava grog. I just use pineapple juice + coconut milk to make the kava.

So do you actually knead it in the coconut milk?

One of the traditional way to prepare this plant root is to dry it, grind it to a powder and then mix it with tepid water. The resulting beverage is taste a lot like dirt! To improve the taste, and to still get the relaxing and anti-anxiety effects of this herb, you can mix the muddy kava liquid into a smoothie.

Dude, why are you peddling K@, fake amphetamine called Adarol, and synthetic pot on this forum?  And what exactly is "kava kava wax?"

Kava scented candles? Make your room smell like terrible pepper?

I use the blender method myself, but yes; I use equal parts coconut
milk and pineapple juice, add the kava powder to that and prepare as
with water.
It's pretty good!
And I suspect the enzymes in the pineapple juice and the fats in the coconut milk help with extraction, yielding a stronger drink.

I think there is some merit to your theory about the pineapple juice increasing kava strength. I noticed that if I toss 'n wash with orange juice I get about a 50% stronger effect than if I use water.

Ok so I have now tried the coconut milk / pineapple juice method, and it does take off quite a bit. Throw in a chaser shot of straight pineapple juice and it's the most effective thing I've found. Thanks for sharing!

I think novices who dislike the taste (like the original poster) might benefit from being directed to a different type of Kava. Something mild like Nak@Home's White Sand, or even something like BKH's Boroguru which is fairly strong but still has a tolerable taste.

And of course if they're willing to venture outside of soak-and-knead kava, there's always Ozia candies, Paradise extracts, and all the instants out there...
