Blending different Kava strains together?

Hi all,

I have noticed lately that the Nambawan from BKH - previously one of my favourites - is a little too overwhelming for me (even somewhat anxiety provoking). The only other strains I have at the moment are the Nene and Hiwa from GHK (and since I live in Germany, unfortunately won't be able to stock up on any others any time soon :grumpy:), and I was considering mixing in some Nene to "mellow out" the Nambawan a bit. However, there is a "Kava purist" in me which says that it may not be good to mix 2 strains from different regions (i.e. a Hawaiian with a Vanuatu). Anybody resonate with that, or do I just have some strange idea in my head?

And more specifically: has anybody mixed these 2 strains (i.e. Nambawan and Nene), and if so, any comments on the effects?

Yes, I know: every strain effects each person differently, so the only way to really know is for me to combine the 2 and see for myself, buy I thought I would first reach out to the (wonderful :)) Kava community here and hear your thoughts / opinions / experience on the matter...

I have a few strains that are great in the realm of effects but tend to bother my stomach, something that I notice with most Fijian Kava. For these ones I tend to blend them in a ratio of 1:2 with a more smooth Kava to balance out the side effects

I would go ahead and mix the Nene in there. It will take the edge off. Sometimes I mix Mahakea with Moi' when I want a balanced kava.

Mix away! When I was micro-only I would regularly mix moi or nene into other kavas to either "kick it up" a notch or "mellow" it out a notch. Just like coffee and wine - some of the best flavors come from mixing different kinds and roasts. Drop the purist and find your own blend!

So, a quick follow-up: mixed the Nambawan with the Nene today (more or less 1:1) and the result was very nice. Not "overwhelming", as the Nambawan alone can be, and not sedating, as the Nene alone is reported to be...

I have been mixing my kavas for weeks now. Every time. I really enjoy seeing the synergy between kavas.
I find that mixing kavas makes for a broader more well-rounded experience.

Each aluball gets a different kava when double-ballin, and occasionally I will mix the dregs of a couple few bags of powder together.

Yes, mixing a heavy Vanuatu with a smoother Hawaiian is always a win!
