Borongoru Vanuatu Kava Root

Hi all,

I started using Kava a few weeks ago with the Gaia pills- I wasn't a fan. They gave me a stomach ache and heart palpitations- and frankly I was scared to continue using them after a few days so I threw the rest of the bottle away. I started to think that maybe the side effects were psychological (because they were pills) so I this week I went out and bought a box of Yogi Stress Relief Tea. So far I really like this product! No side effects and it generally calms down my anxiety (although I usually have to drink 3 teabags at once to get a very mild effect).
So after liking the tea I decided it was time to buy some real Kava and give it a try! My wife gave me a $30 limit because I threw out the pills and she doesn't want to waste money if I don't like it. So I went on Amazon yesterday and ordered 1/2lb of Borongoru Vanuatu Kava Root (Noble). The reviews said this type is very heady and not overly sedative- which is important to me because I would likely have some during the day. Has anyone here tried this brand? If so, what were your thoughts on the effects? Also- how many servings should I expect from 1/2lb? Thank you!

You never listed the brand only the type but if its the one from Kalm I know their stuff is all awesome as for servings it depends on what preparation method you are using and how much.. There are some very knowledgeable people here that can help you and I'd wait to hear from them as I'm still learning myself. I would just like to say welcome and to always look for noble. There is a starter guide on the site here too that will help with how to do traditional prep if you need it , sorry I don't have the link, I am still not real good on computers other then video games and you tube haha.

Hi- yes the Kava I ordered is Noble and it's from Kava Kalm. Thanks for the note- I will definitely need to find and use the preparation guide!

At the top of the page is a tab that says new to kava? That gives a lot of info, again sorry I don't know how to link but its right at the top of the page :)

You purchased a stellar kava straight out of the gate. Kalm with Kava is an excellent vendor of high quality kava. I found boronguru to be a middle of the road kava. Not overly sedating, and not overly energizing. Great kava for any time really. Half a pound would personally last me about 4-5 days. I use about 40-45 grams per session.

Also, welcome to the forums! We are happy to have you with us. @Naijomii is absolutely correct. Click the "New To Kava?" tab at the top, then click "Frequently Asked Questions" and that should give you a great start.

Thank you. I'm excited to try it out. I just read through the entire "new to Kava" thread. Glad you also found this product to not be overly sedative- I really need to function and control my anxiety at the same it.

I would agree with this. The KWK Borongoru for me has the same effect. It won't "put me down" but it's also not too heady either, it's pretty much right in the middle. I did find that if I took a lot of it over the course of a day, like 1.5 cups of powder total, I would start to feel like taking a nap. But if you keep it to a relatively "normal" session (by that I'd say less than a cup total), it treats one very nicely.

I also haven't had any problems with dermo, headaches, or eye itchiness with KWK's kava, just to add that... It's noble and good...

Welcome to the Forum, @jetsman21! I had a similar experience with the Gaia caps. I found them effective, but if I took too much, they did something to my stomach.

Boron is an interesting kava. Like others have said, it is neither overwhelmingly heady nor heavy. I find it is good for anxiety, but not very "recreational" Keep in mind the grind of the boron is pretty coarse, which means you may need to knead for a longer time than with more finely ground kavas.

I had about a pint of a 2/3 KWK Borongoru mixed with 1/3 KBR Vanuatu3 mix in three shells last night. Half cup of first wash mixed with a 1/2 cup of second and a 1/2 cup of third wash. What a nice blend. It was plenty euphoric, mildly recreational feeling, super relaxing, and not too couchy/krunky. Think I am getting the prep thing down proper now. Now I am curious to try a chemotype that is even more heady but not heavier then Borongoru for the occasional tune out and slap some space rock on weekend session. Yep, sure digging the KWK Borongoru as my after work/evening/weekend kava!
