"Dermo" on just my hands - or is it something else?

Hey everyone:
I'm somewhat new here. Been a Kava enthusiast for a few months, not counting my first shell in Fiji about 19 years ago.
Anyway, does anyone get pretty bad dry hands just from preparing Kava the traditional way? My hands are pretty darn dry, at times looking like maybe very low grade dermopathy. Or maybe there is something about just submerging your hands in Kava that can dry out your hands? No symptoms elsewhere on me - at least not yet.

I know that I can approach this scientifically and lay off the traditional prep (or, even more scientifically, wear some medical gloves), but want to see if any of you all had or know of any similar experiences ...

Thanks!!

Yep. Until I started using nitrile gloves when prepping, my hands looked like that of a 90 year old man.
