Fish Oil

So let me start by saying I am very content with just using water when preparing and consuming Kava. I like the taste and the calming effects are delightful. I've read about people using different milks and things to get more of the happiness from their Kava but I'm not a fan of the taste of any of them. I take a fish oil supplement 3 times a day with my meals but have off and on wondered if there would be any benefit to taking my fish oil before, during, or after my Kava session.
Tonight I might take my third and final fish oil capsule with my Kava but if anything were to happen at all, if there's a chance...what do you all think?

Before? During? Or After?

Or just take the damn thing with dinner as usual and give up this foolishness! I'm making Feijoada by the way and am very excited about it.
As always, thanks for any advice, suggestions, and opinions in advance :)

I think the idea with prepping with the milks is that they extract more KL's than water, not neccessarily that they provide something for the kava to bind to once it's in your system. I could be wrong though.

When I first saw this thread I thought someone might be saying they were going to prep with fish oil. Ughh... I've heard some use olive oil, which sounds nasty enough.

Oh Lord no, that'd be absolutely disgusting haha

I'm just curious, what is the theory behind the fish oil and kava combination ?
Is it because kava seems to work well with fatty foods ?
Or is it because fish oil apparently crosses the blood-brain barrier, so you're hoping the kava will hitch-hike onto the fish oil, and into the brain at a higher rate ? :)

The theory is...I had heard people eating fatty foods after sessions say it seemed to extend the kava effects and I wondered if fish oil would have the effect.

Which is not nearly as clever as any of the things you said haha.

So I take fish oil daily. Partially for heart health, but mainly for mental health benefits. On occasion I have taken it just before, and sometimes right after my usual daily shelling. I don't think it did anything to potentiate kava, but I am interested to hear if others have had any additional benefits. I find that cheese and dairy is more effective than fish oil.

I love cheese and i love gorgonzola, I nibble on pieces when shelling and I think it helps. I am not sure about fish oil either, I also take it as a daily supplement.

I'm also interested in regular use of fish oil, for mental benefits.
I recently heard, to my surprise, that a person can actually take much higher than the recommended dose, and it won't hurt.
I'm curious what levels of EPA and DHA that you shoot for, and if you know of a good source that is certified to be low, or free from heavy metals

This is a good resource for finding contaminant free fish oil products.

Thank you very much.
I've been looking for such a resource, exactly like this, for a very long time ; an independent 3rd party evaluator of supplements, especially for their purity.
It's so hard to find one that's both knowledgeable and neutral in bias.
Do you find them to be unbiased for the most part ?

Fish oil would be nore effective in morning before a session and after one for dry skin. In my experience i go emptyy stomach and have virgin coconut oil on my final shell. It really kicks it back up when ur coming down. About 20 min later i have a meal before bed

I like to think they are, but the truth is I don't know. There is certainly some opportunity for conflict of interest as they are giving out certifications and also providing referral links to the products they test. Though at least so far I have not seen any red flags that would make me doubt their sincerity.

Just curious ; is your name due to being a "Skins" fan of the NFL ?

I've been taking Dr. Jim Stoppani's omega-3 formulation for years now, and haven't noticed any correlation of effect on my kava sessions when I take them in any varying proximity to each other. It's comprised of that following amounts of Omega-3s, which he recommends on a per day basis (especially for those who work out) based on his research:
1500 mg Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA)
1500 mg Eicosapentaenoic Acid (EPA)
300 mg Docosapentaenoic Acid (DPA)

You can read about it if you're interested: https://jymsupplementscience.com/product/omega-jym

Interesting. I've used Stoppani's protein supplements with success.. one of my goto workout supplements.

IMO just take the fish oil how you normally would. As far as potentiating kava, you're better off putting your focus on prep techniques, water to root ratio, water temperature, etc than trying to potentiate it. If its not strong enough then you either need to prep it better or need to source stronger root. There's a symphony of plant chemicals working together to give you the experience so it's not like potentiating an isolated pharmaceutical chemical that is exerting a specific series of effects on your body and essentially has no ceiling or balance in its effects.
